I agree but would plod, it seams to an outsider that the UK system is on the side of the crooks, how that works I dont know but.......
CCTV might just cause them to look for the recorder as well, as I posted a few months ago, there is a box that we (as in car owners) can install that has a GSM sim card in and 3 relays , just send a text to the box and the relays go off, that could be fuel pump, horn, central locking, ecu and so on, up to the installer to choose which wires they splice into. To me that has to be the way to go, leave the keys in the hall, if the car goes, get your cell phone and text the car, next thing the arse wipe knows the car has stopped and the horn is blasting with no way to stop it, job done..

I shall probably get linched for saying this but I firmly beleive that the pendilum has swung just that bit too far now in this country of ours. Prison doesn't deter anyone these days. Educate them? Your having a laugh.

Nope, go back to basics I say. If a thief is caught then chop his bleeding hands off and do it in public. that would deter some of the scrotes, not all I must admit but at least some. Show what happens on video in schools if you get caught - that would educate them.

There is no way this could happen of course in this mamby, pamby state because of human rights, etc but if anyone stood up with the balls to really get firm with these pond life then they would certainly get my vote.

I suppose we should just have to settle for getting nicked and fined for having rear light bulb gone - after all, there's money in that for the coffers but nothing for nicking thieves.

Sorry for the rant but this sort of thing just grieves me these days, it's not just the stealing of the car - although that's bad enough in itself - but the complete and utter disregard for the traumatic effect it can have on the family once these scum have left the house.

I can only imagine how you and your family must be feeling at the moment, how this would effect me if it happened to me then God only knows. I hope that you and your family are all OK and that not only you get your car back but they catch these little ba$tards as well.

Terzo really sorry to hear your news mate, a very similar incident happened to me not that long ago. It has made us very guarded almost paranoid about our safety. We have fitted CCTV inside and out, got a dobermann, redcare, locking gates you name it - where do you stop with this kind of behavior. I've gone from been a worried sick nervous fool to feeling like I could literally kill any intruder that dared put my family through the same again. Extreme I know, its just the way the bastards make you feel.

I think Graham's point re this nanny state is completely right. Criminals ultimately get more in the way of defense/protection when arrested than normal law abiding citizen, literally because they will pursue any loop hole available with their arse licking defense lawyers who only get paid if they win. These sort of individuals have nothing to loose unlike the state who are terrified of been counter sued for not considering their humanitarian rights. If you are contravening the law you should not be able to get legal representation in defense of your actions. Do you know the CCTV people were telling me that they had to fit a special emergency lighting system in one night club, so that when burglars break in and trip the alarm PIRS they don't inadvertently trip or hurt them selves in the dark, as they would ultimately sue the night club owner for negligence - can you honestly believe that!

Anyway, sorry to rant guy's, just makes my effin blood boil.

Best of luck Terzo you deserve it.

Trouble is it's also easy to block GSM (SIM card) signals as well as GPS (Tracker) signals as pointed out further up the thread!
As mentioned before - better not elaborate on this.
Better to mount a secret switch and disconnect [switch-off] the fuel pump every time you leave your car. cheap easy and effective, i.e. car won't start, even with key.

Ran downstairs, they've broke through the back door, walked through the house into the hallway and taken the keys (from what i thought was a hidden place)

I'm dumnstruck. Never thought this would happen to me. Police have just left.

I'm in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. they believe it has headed towards West Yorkshire.

Please keep your eyes peeled. it is an 06 RS4 in Sprint blue. Standard other than a private Reg - MJK ***.

The main thing is they left me, my wife and our 4 month old daughter alone.
I have often wondered whether to bring my car keys upstairs with me...if they hadn't found them downstairs would they have come upstairs ?? I dread to think what they would have done to get the keys
Thank god for that! That is why my keys would be easy to find!

Sorry to hear this Terzo.
So we can be on the look out, is it an Avant or Saloon (or Cab)? I'd be surprised if it wasn't an Avant but..
Also are there any distinguishing features such as unusual spec or any damage (however minor)?

Actually, to be exact it's not CCTV we've got but webcams, so the images get uploaded to an internet site - nothing they can do about that!

When wife's car was removed from the driveway the thieves removed wheel arch lining disabled alarm, deactivated the dealocking and then neatly cut a hole below door lock to open door and carefully removed steering column and then towing it away (modern cars need 2-3 ecus to talk to each other to work - thus no hotwiring) and possibly scuppered the monitor part of the tracker monitor (or it didn't work for which tracker compensated me) - and this was on a vauxhall!! (admittedly a quicker variety!). Fortunately they didn't break in to the house for the keys (maybe due to monitored alarm, very robust locks -steel skimmed door, hinge bolts etc - again this security was only present due to previous S3 being knicked whilst in Thailand!). Long and short of it is, is that if they want the car they will generally overcome trivial items like tracker etc. Speaker to a tracker engineer, he said the best theft prevention measures are the simples one, take a couple of fuses out, install a power breaker, fuel line tap, remove ht leads etc etc. Some may not be practical, but the thieves are very tech savvy.

Anyhow, really sorry to hear of your loss, but as other have said, you and your family are safe. I can empathise.

My RS4 - although 4-5 years away, will not happen until i move house and have a secure garage, gates and no visibility from the road - as well as it being debadged and de silver wing mirrored!!. It is terrible, but i would always be abit nervous otherwise.

Having your car nicked has got to be one of the more unpleasant experiences in life...

Of course, one option if you're a B7 owner, is to move in next to someone with a 997 turbo or a F430...

However, it may be that owners of supercars of this ilk are better insulated against theft because of the conspicuous nature of the vehicles and their rarerity...

Other than a "V8" badge on the back (opposite side to RS4 badge) and a private plate (MJK 354) it was standard saloon in Sprint blue.

Its a relay output so connect it to anything at all, could even connect it to an ignition coil hooked up to the gear stick and the flat bottom of the wheel, 24,000 Volts everytime you touch something metal in the car,,,, might make you get out. Could be problem if you sent the message while the "war office" had the car.
