But lets look at the facts: 4wd is the way to go, Look at Porsche and Lambo for that. The M3 is approx 210bhp per wheel...the RS4 is about 105bhp per wheel and double the number to put the power down. In the real world in the dry the RS4 will be as quick as the M3 and IMO much better finished and much more practical. In the wet.........well best not to go there. Any 'normal' driver (as opposed to Michael Schumacher) will not be able to drive the M3 anywhere near its ability, but they will be able to think they are near the limit in the RS4 with the extra security. The M3 is full of new fangled technology, energy recovery in braking being a neat one. But I'm sure Audi will take much of this on board when it becomes reliable and makes a genuine difference. Audi have Quattro, which has by and large remained unchanged for the last 40 years....
The new M3 V8 is a variant on the the F1 V10 engine and built in the same factory, are you honestly saying that Ferrari either do not have or could not pull an engine off the shelf...?

Its horses for courses. For me, even if offered a new M3 at £25k - I'll stick with the Audi thanks. The Audi IMO is the thinking mans car. The BMW is and will always be the pimps ride and of course in later years, the chav's motor.
Ferrari seems to think that 325hp per wheel is perfectly fine. Lambo uses AWD because they can't build a decent chassis. A rwd Lambo would be a death trap while Ferrari makes it work. At 8/10ths a properly set up RWD car is as safe to drive as an AWD and beyond that you should really be on track.
Russian_dude - are you trying to say that more power to 2 wheels is better than less to 4? Its a no brainer. How many of us go sideways (on purpose) when using the car as a daily commuter? BTW - I have owned an M3 Evo and driven the E30, E36 (Evo and 3L) and the E46 - therefore base my opinions on fact.

Even in daily driving the 2 wheels feel better then 4. If I may use the condom analogy, RWD is sex without a condom and AWD is with. AWD is more safe but way less fun. No matter how thin the condoms get (or how good awd is tuned.) Nothing beats RWD or sex without a condom.
Although on roads you don't know (or broads you never met before) Awd/rubber is preferable.

You don't need to be a porn star to enjoy sex without a condom and you don't need to be on track to enjoy RWD.

To summarise (my thoughts) If I was given the chance to have an M3 for a couple of days then that would be great for arse end out action, to do 15k a year, mostly on <beep> roads, in the wet or damp then the RS4 is the best you can get for 50k!!!!!!!!

I have the new M3 on order but im seriously thinking of cancelling it due to the fact that by the time Im due to get mine, the RS4 will be worth say 40K, and I dont believe the M3 is worth another 13/14k specced up!!!!!!!!

Very wise dump it before it costs you the earth, and RV will probably suffer also.

RWD is for those, who wants to control power by a pedal. AWD is for those who can control power with the steering wheel :D

Why then get an RS? A 2.0T Quattro would be just as good and you'll have money left over for something very tasty.

Not sure if it's been posted, but the M3 vs RS4 head to head in this weeks Auto Express is out & the RS4 wins, but not by much.

Russianm3 - not being obnoxious but I could afford the RS, and if I felt the M3 was worth it I would pay the extra 13/14 k but I personally dont feel it's worth it.
