So far I've had to correct him on this issue, the fact that 4Gb cards will work in the RNS-E and that the RS6+ came in Sprint Blue - typical dealer attitude - think that are right but are generally wrong.
Is that correct about the 4GB card working in the RS4?? I bought a 4GB card last week (SDHC i think) & assumed it wouldn't work in the RS4, as most devices state a 2GB maximum & neither my new Digital Camera or HD Camcorder would recognise a 4GB card (fine with 2GB). My RS4 is a brand new 2007 model. Also Craig will be doing the BlueTooth kit in a couple of weeks so if a 4GB card does not work currently, would any kind of software upgrade make it work??
Put together 2 x 2GB cards over the weekend in readiness for collecting the car on Saturday. If it's correct about 4GB working, then that would give me somethign to do this evening

I use mostly 4GB SD cards in the RNS-E in my RS4 - but as craigyb says they MUST be SD cards and not SDHC cards.
4GB is the largest size of SD cards there will be (it's the largest size possible under the SD standards). SDHC cards will appear in 4GB and larger sizes - so anyone buying 4GB SD cards for their RNS-E must be VERY certain they are getting SD and not SDHC cards.

Ta muchly, i'll invest in a couple of standard 4GB SD cards when i get time.
Oddly enough i checked DABS & they don't sell the standard 4GB SD cards, only the SDHC (which i bought). I'm sure i'll track a couple down.
As an aside & back on topic, i'm having my BlueTooth module fitted on the 25th March (thanks Craig) at the same time as i get my POGO Alert fitted so all set from the 25th onwards.
Bit worried i'll have no GPS speed camera detector for 2 weeks after collection, but as i'll be running the car in i should be safe

It might be worth pointing out that I dont think you can access all the music stored on a 4Gb SD card (or it might just be me?)...
My current 4Gb card is filled up to max capacity and I am unable to access around half the folders. I'll be scrapping the 4Gb and buying 2 2Gb cards I think...

There is a limit to the number of files/folders that the RNS-E can read. That limit is 512. If you've filled a 4Gb card then I suspect you have over 512 files/folders on it. Just reduce the number - no need to scrap the card.
Cheers,
Daz

Hmmm, not much point in having a 4Gb card if I can only fit 512 files/folders.... 2Gb cards are dirt cheap anyway, think I'll just get a couple of them.

It depends on your tracks and the bit rate that they are ripped at. It is possible to fill a 4Gb card with less than 512 files/folders. i.e you could rip a whole album as 1 file if you wanted to.

Andy (or anyone else for that matter),
Can you just explain the rationale for this upgrade?
Does it improve the functionality of the in-car system?
This is something you do in addition to deleting the horrible onboard cradle?
Cheers,
J

This is not an upgrade and does not add any extra functionality to the existing phone kit, it is purely for those people that did not buy the phone kit with the car and require bluetooth.

Hi Craig,
Only found this forum last night, so if this has been covered previously, just point me in the right direction.
I picked up my '07 RS4 saloon on Saturday, and it has a Tech Pack, but no phone preparation. If I purchase your Bluetooth unit, what functionality do I end up with? Does it interface with the Nav System Plus, or is it effectively a standalone addition?
Also, where are you based?
Cheers,
Dave.

Unfortunately you cannot purchase my BT units anymore. I'm doing full "supply and install" from now on. This will vastly reduce my telephone/email support time with people I have sold kits to that don't read the instructions.
The install integrates just like the factory kit, interfaces to the NAV system and cluster DIS.
I'm based in Manchester

Hi Craig,
Sounds like a very sensible decision!
Manchester quite a trek for me, so can you recommend anyone who could help in London?
Many thanks,
David.

Having seen some of the work that other "installers" have done, I am not willing to recommend anyone to work on your car.
