Ok, 1st post, so be gentle!

I fully understand why peeps would want the Tech Pack (dunno why they didn't make that one standard :? ), but your others, I have to question, particularly the phone prep (which has ancient phone cradles), and the TV tuner, which is analogue only!

Hi Teutonic...looks like you scored 2 first posts all at once!

I agree the tech pack is the main option to have but what I was trying to say is that there are other cars out there with "better" spec than just tech packed cars. Ultimately it is down to what you want/need. I personally wouldn't give a stuff about the CC brakes/sports suspension or mobile phone prep. TV reception would be nice though...even though analogue, it would allow me to watch telly while waiting to pick up my wife every evening at the train station.

Im with the majority on this one - i bought the car because I wanted an RS4, and not because I might make a quick buck out of it. This was not an investment purchase, neither did I whince at the MPG performance of the car (although my local garage know me quite well by now :-))

When (if) I eventually sell the car, I'll have had a quality car from new with good performance and quality build thats put a smile on my face every time Ive got in it. Who cares if its worth 30K in 12 or 24 months - and would I want a 3yr 50K miler anyway?

My 2p.
Everyone is unique, just like you and me.

Options are interesting.
Not been in one with Sports suspension so can't comment from authority, I've never been a fan of rian adn light sensors (can't help thinking that if you can't see it/move your fingers to turn respective device on then perhaps driving is the last thing you shoud attempt) and the TV will be redundant tech next year when the signal is begun to be switched off.
Tech pack has to be fitted though.
CC brakes would have been nice but are not worth 4+k

A car with a glass sun roof is worth more than one with a solar one :)

finance companies offerin pcp schemes are valuing 3yr old cars at around 28-29k and its sure to be worth at least a little more than that (finance companies are usually pretty good at judging future values considerin its in their interest to do it right!).

Havn't got the foggiest how that happened!

The analogue TV will be as much use as a chocolate teapot when they go fully digital, unlike the radio, where FM and DAB are broadcast side-by-side. If the TV tuner had been the digital one, like on the A6 and A8, then I would have specced it!

I've gone for the Ceramic brakes on mine, beacuse I find the conventional brakes on my B6 S4 nigh-on useless - about 3k mi from the front pads! :x

The other options (auto dimming mirror, sunroof, black optic pack, auto boot, blinds, auto air recirc, armrest) are merely for my personal enjoyment.

I didn't really see the point in the Sports Suspension - only 10 mm lower, for £500 . . . hmmm!

BTW, how do I add my signature?

Same here, I thought the standard RS4 suspension was fine.

Oh, I dunno about that. Firstly the light sensor, whilst I agree that you should know when to switch on the lights, its utterly amazing just how many peeps don't switch them on when they should, so if it helps to guide the "numpties", then that has to be a safer thing! The light sensor also turns on the headlamps when you travel faster than 80mph, handy for when you are "making progress" along an Autobahn!

The rain sensor I do find to be a handy tool. If you are giving it the beans around twisty lanes, and you splash a big puddle with steering lock, the auto wipers do come in handy. The self regulation is also nifty - how many times do you end up fiddling with the delay on the intermittent, to get it just right. And again, the dodery old farts who don't know how to turn off the wipers, even though the screen is bone dry, and smoke starts billowing from the protesting rubber screeching away on the glass!

Aye.
Mikeyboy wrote:Tech pack has to be fitted though.
Especially when it is standard on the S6! :x

You obviously don't lean hard on your anchors, then! :D

That is a very good feature that I did not know about.

Mine will be up for sale at the beginning of April 2008. It will be just under 2 years old and have an expected mileage of 90k, (38k now). It is fully spec'ed, phantom black and will available to anyone who can offer more than £30,000.

So to the initial question posed...will you be able to buy a B7 RS4 for £30k (ish) in a years time...YES, mine. You can leave a £500 deposit now if you wish, its then yours in 2008

might take you up on that Jon....

I am waiting til I pay around the 35k mark for a car with about the same milage. thats what I paid for the b5 and that was about 2 1/2 yrs old when I bought it from a dealer.

You can get a similar deal on an rs6/+ now, so I see no reason why the b7 will be any different to those that have gone before it.

If you are doing more than average milage (15k-20k) then expect to loose 1k a month on a motor like the rs4 for the first couple of years of it's life (thats on top of what interest you are paying on the chucky you may or may not have taken).
Too much is bad.
Plenty is better.

Andy, further to your earlier request for an update on the fans/solar sunroof. The're actually quite amazing. They get stronger depending on the intensity of the sun and the heat of the car. they do a fairly good job of making sure its all cool on the inside and that the aircon doesn't have to work too hard.
Summer will obviously be the biggest test.
