That I can see. Pretty rare to kill the engine completely to the point of a new engine. but with the 70% goodwill it would make any repair pretty close Id imagine so no contest.D6CLN wrote:i was in talking to the mechanic on Friday and cant remember exactly what he said
said the tensioner collapsed and the chain guides broke up also the nylon on the side of the chain broke up causing it to have play and chain snapped...all fixed now but still to be QC'D (QUALITY CHECKED) on monday so hopefully have it back tomorrow

Its like small bubbles on the paint common on rs4 and s line model a4s normally on rear arches. And lower of the doors and in the runners on the roof slight corrosion
Yeah thought that was what was meant by zincs. I have a bubble on my bootlid just above rs4 badge a few bit of laquer peeling. Think im outwith paint warranty though (56 reg). And probs not much in way of goodwill as recently all indy services

No, Audi Corrosion is 10 years, Audi Paint is 3 years. It is a common misunderstanding given that Audi push the 10 year anti corrosion. Unfortunately Audi class "Zinc Inclusions" as a paint defect. If you do a google search on "zinc inclusions" you'll find out more.neilparf wrote:Audi paint is 10 years..
I'm not certain I understand the process of how Audi galvanize their steel panels but as far as I could work out its a paint process. Prior to this the shell is given a fine sand blast and the problem starts when some of these small grains of sand are not cleaned off. The sand grains get painted over and these start the pimples as the steel "sweats" from below the paint. Some others on here might be able to explain it better.
My car had about 20 of these pimples over the lower half of the doors and front of the rear wheel arches. Mine was done under warranty although to be honest I was very surprised as was the guy at the body shop when it was approved. I did have a full Audi service history and also not first Audi so maybe that helped.

oops, thread seems to have gone off topic a bit
Re: BULLETPROOF ENGINE....
You are totally right - my bad - paint is 3 years and anti corrosion 10. I had it in my wooly mind that the paint defect was the symptom of the corrosion you describe hence why I bowled in with '10 years'Iain_S4 wrote:No, Audi Corrosion is 10 years, Audi Paint is 3 years. I know the roof channels can 'bubble from underneath and I suspect that's a typical corrosion claim whilst paint is the tell take sign...
Engine > Paint - yes, waaaaay of topic!
