Only just read this thread.
I had the same symptoms when I first purchased my car, turned out to be a flat battery as I had left it in storage for 2 months (prob been sitting on forecourt for ages too), Audi recharged it and its been fine ever since (same battery now for nearly 6 years).
In late 2008, I had the same symptoms again, however when pushing the start button it made multiple clicking sounds. Flat bedded to Audi and they diagnosed it with a faulty starter motor caused by corrosion. All replaced under warranty. They could not say what caused it.

So, audi had the car back and informed me it needed a new starter motor, one had been ordered and audi would stand 70% of the cost under goodwill. I told them that was good of them, however, would the audi warranty I had when the problem originally occurred the previous year have covered this, a phone call back confirmed that it would. I then explained the car had been in with that fault 3 times, all documented, and due to the fact they could not diagnose the problem then, I was not willing to stand any costs now they had found the fault and my warranty had expired. An early Christmas present to me they agreed and stood the full cost, so a big thank you to Audi Stockport.
Did a new starter sort out this problem?
I've just replaced my clutch this weekend and the cold and snow is taking its toll. This morning it took me 10 mins to get the darn thing running.... just makes a "click" noise when pushing down the "start" button. Sounds like the starter is trying to engage but gives up. Pain
Tell me about it, this month already ive had to replace the flywheel, clutch and a cracked gearbox... owned the car 2 months and have only had 30 driving days out of it.
Coilovers, oil pipes, spark plugs and air filter are planned for next month and im sure something else will break. I haven't been welcomed to RS4 ownership very nicely.

Did you have the car inspected? Would have thought most of those would be picked up to the point you didn't have to be shelling out within 2mths??RS4ABM wrote: Tell me about it, this month already ive had to replace the flywheel, clutch and a cracked gearbox... owned the car 2 months and have only had 30 driving days out of it.

Re: Refuses to start in the cold!!!!!
As an interesting side note, I had mine serviced in dec with a plug change.
Since then absolutely perfect in the cold and no lumpy or hesitation.

Ditto - just had mine serviced with plug change and no longer lumpy when cold.
Not sure if its the plugs or just the service - my guess is the plugs have something to do with it
