I reckon it's dead easy, read the coding/adaptation guide on the Ross-Tech wiki http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.ph ... 28RNS-E%29 then write down the values in your current RNS-E and just make them the same in the new one.
Cheers PetrolDave - sounds a breeze. As soon as VCDs arrives and the new unit I'll get coding...

DO IT! It's one of the best mods I've done to my motor and really brings the interior up to date. I also fitted a 2010+ RNS-E and a Audi Music Interface in the glovebox. The RNS-E had custom FW which gave me full SDS including voice SATNAV control [IE enter postcode ETC] and I replaced the centre console to loose the mahoosive phone cradle .

Still thinking about it thanks. I take it that there are two different versions of the wheel? The one in this link is perforated - http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/retrofit/1 ... ofits.html

I coded the RNS-E this morning and changed a few things in the adaptation settings to what they should logically be (languages, driver position etc), but one issue still remains. The head unit is not switching on/off with the ignition. Probably an easy thing but I cannot find it sadly.

/EDIT, ignore the head unit question as it finally got the smoke signals and now cycles properly with the key.

After major changes to the coding it's always a good idea to force a reboot by pressing and holding the RADIO and SETUP buttons until it reboots.

Yep, will do later when I am next in the car.

Any idea on this one? I don't need it but it would be nice to have it not presenting in the logs:

It did that with the previous RNS-E that was in there too. I haven't dug in to it with Vagisil as laptop battery is flat now and no charger here.

The only other error is this one, which I have googled briefly but have been distracted with other things:

Right, after the TV Tuner giving me a load of jip, it finally accepted 0000030 instead of the 0000010 that it was coded on so that no longer flags. Haven't had a chance to look in to the Potentiometer one.

Neil, my TPS boss contact has been extremely hard to track down so in the end, The Retrofit Guru, aka NHN is kindly getting the parts for me and will be bringing them down with him when he does the following work I have agreed to today on the 4:

Supply/fit of TTRS steering wheel (perforated)
Fitment of sds system
Supply/fit of latest audi bt system
Supply/fit of wiper stalk
Supply/fit/relocation of dash sport button
Supply of top chrome dial
Supply of RS4 badge

My amazing detailer, Dream Detail (Lee) will also be doing his thing to the RS4 shortly. This is what he does when he works on my main beast - http://dreamdetail.co.uk/blog/highly-modified-audi-rs6 - He has worked on a fair few forums cars now too if anyone is curious.

By the way, madam has nooooooo idea I have agreed to any of this today :D

Surrey Sam wrote:One thing to bare in mind - It's my understanding that the SDS is a firmware hack for those eBay units, so if the car was to ever be updated with later firmware you'd lose the SDS feature; thus requiring a later firmware hack to be re-applied. If you go for an H version RNS-e then it is an SDS compliant unit and should keep the feature regardless of updates.
Sam - I had a response from the Ebay vendor on the SDS hack. Same place Mr Footlong purchased previous RNS-e's from too. I asked if the hack was applied and likely to be lost during any future firmware update - It appears not to be a hack as such:

Hi, its not a firnware hack like with MK1.
Its the whole firmware - one is regular without SDS, and another for which we pay lience is with SDS.
Its not like you install 0220 firmware and add SDS separately, it doesnt work this way anymore.
You have to either downgrade to lower and install the full 0220 SDS version, or if its older on the unit, just to install the 0220SDS version.

Until 2013 Audi was updating the softwares for MK2 units, there was 0070 0150 0200 0220, but since 2013 the last update 0220 and at 2014 there was no update and is still 0220, so i guess they quit updating it and you would not have problems in the future.

But if there would be some updates, then just use the dvd with lets say speed cameras added and that would not update the unit.

But in general, in case there will be some update, and if you would run it, lets say for hypothitcally 0240 or similar (which is not released with 2014 and i guess will not be with 2015 maps) then it could erase the SDS.

It kind of makes sense?

Quick question for Mr Footlong and Sync24

What is the outside circumference of the TTRS wheel? I've measured the B7 RS4 FBSW with a suitable piece of string and get 11.7cm; the reason for asking is that when I drove a V10 R8 it had a thinner steering wheel which felt really naff and put me off updating to a later models version.

And what is this Top Chrome Dial you've had to order?

neilparf wrote:It kind of makes sense?
Cheers, yes that makes sense and helps understand it better.

The last paragraph is the key bit though and the vendor agrees that there is the potential for the SDS feature to be removed with an update. I didn't fancy the risk and held out for an OEM SDS model.

Yes, that is indeed true Sam. I had a further response form the vendor and looking at Audi's Mmi, since 2013 the RNS-e has ben on 0220 OS - as at 2014 there's still no updates and normally within one year there's at least one revision - so I suspect in favour of the new MMI moving forward Audi may have shelved the development of RNS-e hence no further OS updates?
