Yep. Thanks to ye ol' Shopp, I have a set of fairly-shot-but-still-much-better-than-what-is-on-there discs that will hopefully keep me going for a few months.

Tinter man has done his thang, thank god:

The 6 is looking a bit neglected and envious of the new kid getting all of the attention ;)

It is very much like that currently as all the things left to do mod-wise on the 6 are all big ticket items.

Today's mod:
SAM_0526.jpg
Taken from the kit that I was going to fit in to the S3. So much nicer than the previous gen RNS-E display/speed-wise. I would like to think that the audio is better but I am most likely imagining that.

Nice one, the 2010+ RNS-e is a nice mod to do.

I think the new silver rotary buttons have a nicer and more quality action to them and work well with your interior; I have Piano Black inlays so kept the original dark ones which was a shame. The old version is just so slow navigating through folders and calculating routes, not sure about improved SQ though?

Chaps - the legacy RNS-E is sloooooowwww and cumbersome - price etc aside, this is what I;m looking at, right? I have CD changer, Bluetooth mobile compatibility along with 'SDS' on the existing:

Yep, that will do nicely. I have bought at least one of my units off them in the past. Not sure if you will have to code any options in off the top of my head after you do the swap. I have yet to check mine yet with Vagisil due to work.

***EDIT*** - I don't have SDS/use it so note this in the ad - "FULL *SDS* - Speech Dialogue system - Voice control can be added on buyers request for just £49.99 (microphone required for this feature) street price for this service £150-£250!!!"

Excellent Mr Footlong! I thought as much. These guys seem Ok. Vagisil is on my next list to purchase. If only to get my fanboy RS4 logo on the screen. A straight plug and swap I assume even with Bluetooth and CD changer - I assume the plugs and harness wiring in accordingly form those to the back of the RNS-e...

The connectors are absolutely identical, just make sure that you have the RIGHT removal keys for the unit and you should be physically swapped in sub-5 mins.

Here - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151212182928? ... 1439.l2649

The more rounded, more common VAG removal keys don't normally work without a load of brute force and oopsies, trust me on that.

If you don't have Vagisil, get it :)

***EDIT*** The LONGER edges of the keys should all be facing outwards as you insert them, in order to press the locking pins in and lock them on to the keys.

I thought connections are exactly the same - cheers.

I heard the key selection is vital - cheers for the link - that just saved me a lot of swearing and ball ache... longer edges of the keys 'outward' check.

Vagilsi - ordered from Ilexa - check.

Clarity personified :beerchug:

Unfortunately you will loose the RS4 logo when upgrading to a post 2010 (mk2) RNS-e unit, it also isn't available on the pre 2010 units (mk1) that have firmware 0460 and older.

Sam - yeah, after posting that I spotted an older thread from PetrolDave and he said the same thing - the lack of a RS4 branded screen for 4 seconds is a small priced to pay for the rest of the improvement with the 2012 RNS-e - if only to get a faster CPU, display and 32gb SDHC cards and faster read etc...

Did you guys ebay your existing OEM RNS-e or use it for said doorstop?

RNS-e switch will keep me occupied whilst I await the body Shop appointment...

And the ability to swap out the (useless) CD changer for an AMI and get either a big hard disc or proper iPod compatibility.

Swapping from a pre-2010 RNS-E to a 2010+ RNS-E should take you less than 15 minutes - including checking/correcting the coding and clearing any fault codes (if you have BT).

PetroDave - ahhh yes, now that's worth the cost and effort.

I take it any correcting, clearing and coding is straightforward? Pretty savvy regarding these things... VCDS on its way.
