I never saw it in the 36 Celsius temperatures we had 3 years ago (ah memories...).

New improved software!

Ok, sorry for the lack of updates, been absolutely hammered at work!

I've been running the latest ecu software written especially by James at JBS / Custom Code for the last week and a half.
It's quite an improvement over the original APR software with a very noticeable increase in torque especially in the mid range.
Deceleration while staying in gear after hard acceleration has greatly improved too and is alot less violent than before.
There is now a more distinct difference in throttle response/aggression in 'S' mode too.

I got a couple of friends (who had driven the car previously) to drive the car without telling them it had new software installed.
The 1st one 'gave it some beans' immediately and noted straight away how much harder it pulled through the gears.
The 2nd one took me for a long drive around some fast twisty A/B roads and finally onto some motorway. He commented on how more responsive
it felt and how much harder it pulled, then summed it up with "f**king awesome!"
The first question they asked was "has the boost been turned up at all?" (they're both turbo drivers). Nope, boost still remains at
between 6 to 7psi on the standard pulley.

The following PerformanceBox times were achieved using this software on JBS's heavier avant.

All in all a great all round improvement to performance and driveability........I'm even happier than before!

I'm hoping to get some in gear acceleration times done when I get some free time.

As far as I know this software will be available to all APR dealers via APR's servers somepoint soon.

I would not like to use inline oil coolers because you are adding a bit of pressure drop that way. Ideally you'd bypass the stock cooler inside the radiator and put a decent size proper oil cooler on it. Not sure if there's a good space for that though.

I remember going out on the 'ring a few years ago with a fella in his B7 avant, he was hitting a bit over 120C I could see on the dash in early april pretty chilly outside. That's about as high as I'd like to see with 5w40 if I was tracking the car a lot. My RS6 had sky high oil temps on the Ring, I backed off when I hit ~135 about 60% through the lap.

I think a SC'd B7 (or maybe even stock) could make me a nice ringtool in the future, hence my interest in the subject.

I have (and had) other track cars with inline air oil coolers with no pressure drop - I think the key is to not force all the oil to go through the cooler but would need to double check.

Modern oil it's more to do with the grade than the weights - I've seen some fully synth 0w40 oils hang together a hell of a lot better at higher temps than some 10w60's.
With modern polyer design it's not as clear cut as is used to be.

In SA though temps are much higher, was around 27 degrees... on a normal day normal running car is around 110 degrees
Hi stoffel32. I am in jhbg and also own a rs4. Do you pheraps know where I could get any performance parts or where and when there are track days on. I realise your mail was posted a few years ago. Hope you still subscribe to the forum.

Wow this is an old thread.. Where is the holy thread revival picture when you need it...

Anyway, looking at Stoffle's profile it says: Last visited:

Your best bet is to PM him as that will send him an email alert if he is still on the same email.
