I don't really care what you like/dislike, but who the f**k wants a "pimp-mobile" anyway?
FFS.
For me, two or four-up down to the Alps 3/4 times/year for some snowboarding & Cote d'Azur to visit friends, there isn't a car that beats the RS4.
The Ferraris & Porsche's can't do that (plus they're far too ostentatious for my liking - although I'd never say "No" to a GT3!), a Cayenne Turbo S or big Merc (for old men IMHO...I'll never own a Merc) can't go round corners, - plus you need your own oil refinery to run one, an Aston is way out of my budget, and although beautifully engineered, suffers from the same criticism as the Fezzas and Porkers...
Conceivably the M5 is a competitor, but it is a big car for myself and my wife...I don't need all that car and don't really want to have to pay for it.
The choice was a no-brainer in the end, although I really wanted a RS5...because the potential dormant in a turbo-charged car far exceeds that in a NA one.
In fact the RS4 is the first non turbocharged car I've owned in over 10 years.
The turbocharged 4WD package is the epitomy for me on the basis that power is nothing without control, and more often than not, our roads are covered in one kind of s**t or another. Thats where my car will spend 99% of its time so thats whats important to me.
WRC cars are all turbocharged 4WD cars which says it all....
We'll change our A3 for a RS5 in due course.
That said, I do fancy the idea of a V12 Tdi Q7 with more torque than the Titanic.
Hehehehe.
BS, I did not defend the RS4 there, only ragging on the new M3.
You see, you look for a driving tool, I look for driving fun. I drove an M3 all winter in Quebec with ZERO problems, I did not miss a single day of driving and didn't exactly pussyfoot around either.
For me the RS4 is too much of a compromise. Most damning, I don't find it fun at all, efficient, yes. Not fun.
