Coding 2012 RNSE into RS4
Re: Coding 2012 RNSE into RS4
Swanny - just a thought - do you have an aftermarket iPod lead connected? - I've heard that these can cause communication problems with VCDS
Current: Macan Turbo, Boxster 987 S

Hi there,
No, it's going through a genuine Audi iPod dock.
Just seemed strange that it wouldn't communicate with the rnse, is it worth trying to unplug the iPod dock and then recode?

I used to own a 6, now I'm just a lurker!
Re: Coding 2012 RNSE into RS4
Hi,
I'm just writing some issues that I have got now...
What I did:
Audi RS4 B7 (2007):
I oredered and received a 8P0 035 193G which was for an A3.
I removed the original RNS from the RS4 and install the new one (of course front plates have been swapped).
The new RNS-E was asking for the code...fine, no issues so far, CD changer was automatically recognized, sounds was ok and nav as well.
Problems, no display in the DIS (nav or any errors). I set some codings using the VAG but nothing better.
And the worst, plenty of calculators are not reacheable...(as 17- instruments, climatronic, 77 - telephone...)
That was not the fact with the "old" RNS...so I missed somethng I guess no?
The coding I was using :
37 - navigation .coding 07 -software coding -> 0419714
37 - navigation . Adaption 10
channel 001 -> 2016 (225/35ZR19)
channel 002 -> 0
channel 003 -> 2
channel 004 -> 0
channel 005 -> 1
channel 008 -> 255
channel 010 -> 0
channel 018 -> 3
channel 067 -> 000
channel 099 -> 0
Channel 136 -> 00005
Bluetooth coding (not available, cannot link to the controller)
77 - phone -coding 07 - software coding 0010703
77 - adaption 10
channel 133 -> 1 (bluetooth on)
channel 134 -> 0
channel 135 -> enter your 4 digits for bluetooth pin code (default 1234)
17 - instruments (no link to) - adaption 10
channel 062 -> 23
I did an autoscan before with the old RNS (original) and all calculators wre here and reacheable.
So now with the new RNSE some are not reacheable anymore:
08 - climatronic
09 - Electric cent
016 - multi wheel
017 - instruments
045 - Internal
046 - confort module
077 telephone
I'm totally lost there....In worst case I can still put the original rns ..
any help welcome.
Regards
vincent

What version of VCDS and cable are you using. You need a dual K-line plus CAN cable on the B7.lexos wrote:And the worst, plenty of calculators are not reacheable...(as 17- instruments, climatronic, 77 - telephone...)
If you are using the correct cable and VCDS then it sounds like you have shorted out the K-line - which is used for coding the RNS-E, telephone, etc.
Have you changed ANY pinouts? There is no need to as all versions of the RNS-E have the same pinouts.

Re: Coding 2012 RNSE into RS4
Hi,
First thx for the info
I'm using the last version of the the VAG with the original cable.(If I remembered was something like 11.11) Hex/Can USB cable..I'm using it since years on my B7 with no issues.
This morning all works without any issues (I still have no access to some calculators for any reasons...) but I have got all the info in the DIS, bluetooth works perfectly. No errors anymore.
Just for testing purposes..I removed the new RNSE and replaced it with the original...same issues, cannot reach some calculators.
I didn't removed cables or pins from connectors. But I will check again.
if I'm right, if some cables are gone/broken, I may have also issues contacting the other calculators? no?
I'm thinking about disconnecting the battery for one day at least..maybe that will help...or driving to an audi center for checking with the official suitcase

So the problems are nothing to do with the RNS-E swap...lexos wrote:(I still have no access to some calculators for any reasons...)

Which ECUs can you not reach? It wouldn't be 01, 03, 11, ... would it?: Those use CAN diagnosis, where most (all?) the others use K- or K2- line diagnosis.

hi,
08 - climatronic
09 - Electric cent
016 - multi wheel
017 - instruments
045 - Internal
046 - confort module
077 telephone
those above were recheable some weeks ago (cannot really remembered exactly) I still have some logs from previous scans. All other calculators are ok.
A bit weird...disconnecting the battery may help a bit no? at least for a day.

I know the phone is usually on the K2 line, not sure about the others - will need to check?lexos wrote:08 - climatronic

It could be that one of the ECUs is in a "funny" state and "holding" the K/K2 line. If that's the case then I don't think you need to disconnect the battery for anything like as long as a day - a few minutes should be plenty.lexos wrote:A bit weird...disconnecting the battery may help a bit no? at least for a day.

will give a try by disconnecting the battery will see tomorrow

Re: Coding 2012 RNSE into RS4
Hi PetrolDave, sorry for the long delay..I had to quickly go to Spain for Business issues, so not really time to do something.
Anyway, yesterday I removed the cables from the battery ..till today. No problems after the reconnections. I drove a bit to ensure all ok.
Everything is fine, no errors from the autoscan. All clear there.
But still cannot reach the calculators mentionned in my previous posts...so guess I have to go to an Audi center to see if they can do something with their own special case.

Re: Coding 2012 RNSE into RS4
Interesting thought... if yo already have an ipod connecter then that would work on it's own.
However if you have the cradle then I think based on the docs the ipod mount terminates in a 30 pin female connection ("just like the one on the bottom of your ipod/iphone").
Sooo... you could relocate the cradle say behind the dash out of the way and then connect the ipod cable to the cradle. You'd get all the charging and phone signal boosting, easy to see and use phone with no ugly cradle on the side...
tempting...

Re: Coding 2012 RNSE into RS4
I like that a lot. I'm all ears when it comes to eliminating the cradle but keeping a aerial/charging source. I bet that American site has an iPhone 5 compatible ashtray dock quicker than Audi does an OEM cradle adapter. I don't know if the 5 has an aerial-in pin on the 'lightning' socket. It might not.adsgreen wrote:Interesting thought... if yo already have an ipod connecter then that would work on it's own.

Re: Coding 2012 RNSE into RS4
I've ordered one and will try it - interestingly the RS4 has the "b6" ashtray not their b7 one with the cigarette lighter built in.
Re: Coding 2012 RNSE into RS4
It arrive this morning and it's pretty much what you'd expect.
Pretty well made and no obvious flaws - just working out cable routing.
Iphone sits in it fine and is stable - time will tell though if it can keep hold of it when having a bit of "fun".
Have tested the connection and it works perfectly - just plugs into the iphone cradle socket and voila. Power and signal boost.
So in principle a dead easy fit - just need to work out how the cradle fits in and how to access everything. Rather not pull the RNS-E out if I can get away with it!
