However weirdly the cruise control and the starter button IIRC utilise two different switches. Very easy to replace and cheap
Yeh, I know - "Holy Thread Resurrection!" but I've just replaced the top clutch switch and this actually fixed 3 issues for me: (1) Jerkiness on gear changes, (2) Cruise Control not working and (3) Start button now works with quick press, where I used to have to hold it down.

I am a little surprised tbh - leaves me wondering what the bottom clutch switch is for! maybe they both work in tandem for start button function?

With regards to the surprise that an Audi main dealer will replace a part under warranty even though it was fitted by an independent, this is actually the warranty procedure for parts from TPS - you have to go to a main dealer for it to be assessed and they will do the work if they agree the part is faulty and charge Audi UK for the labour, presumably at a much lower hourly rate.
I had this with a TT rear shock, lasted all of 4 weeks before leaking.
Frustratingly I had to tell the customer I couldn't do the work as if I ordered a new shock, they wouldn't accept the old one back for credit so he had to go to the dealer for 2 visits, 1 to assess and 2 to get the work done.
Luckily James was still at Halesowen Audi then and when I told him he just ordered the part in and did it all in one hit but I imagine it's rarely this simple.
