Re: Car damaged in car park
There is one parking space per car, that's it. I take the same risk as everyone else when going into a car park and I do my best to park as neatly as possible, if it's skewed or not dead center, I re-park it. After that, if something happens, it happens and If I return to my car and someone has damaged it I will put it down to carelessness, ineptitude or bad luck. If I'd parked across two car spaces, I'd add being a prick to that list. Just because I drive an RS doesn't mean the local Waitrose car park owes me an extra car space. It's anti-social and elitist.RichRS6 wrote:A bit harsh bam bam... I'm sure if it was your car you'd feel differently...

Re: Car damaged in car park
Truth is I'm happy to accept being tarred with that anti-social and elitist brush if it means i reduce the risk of my property getting damaged.bam_bam wrote:There is one parking space per car, that's it. Fact is i shouldnt have to reduce my risk, people should have the skills and manners that mean these thing dont happen. BUT, they do happen as I've clearly shown.
The fact it's an RS means nothing, its the fact it's my property that means I feel justified in protecting it, nothing to do with its badge, image or price tag.
I'd feel just as annoyed if it had been a 500 banger that had been damaged, the point is not the fact it's been damaged, the point is people dont care about other peoples property and such damage, especially when the culprit has driven off is an indicator of that.
I'll continue to park in two spaces when I park at supermarkets. I'm a thoughtful person so I dont do it at busy nearly full car parks, I do it out of the way so I dont impact on anyone elses chances of getting a parking space.
Your post actually puts you in the league of people who turn a blind eye to the moral point of these stories in favour of having a go at someone who's simply protecting their own property and making a moral standing. you either have no moral standing about the same things, or you're one of them - either way, it's people like you that make this country the <beep> heap it's fast turning into

And if you need a further point about how <beep> this country is becoming, spare a thought for a friend of mine who had a car accident recently.
At 3 in the afternoon his car left a dual carriageway road and went down an embankment. He had been infront of a group of 5 or 6 other cars. None of which stopped to see if he was ok. Turned out that he had broken both his legs and a bone in his back leaving him unable to walk back up to the road.
He spent the next hour getting out of the car and crawling up the embankment using his arms. Once he got to the side of the road he lay on his stomach waving at cars to stop. 17 cars went passed him until one stopped to help him out.
Truth is our society is brimming with people that simply should not be alive as they have such pitiful morals, standards and behaviour.
Nobody got hurt in the Asda car park, but its yet another shining example of how <beep> the people of our country are. We should be ashamed of ourselves as a society and our great grandfathers would turn in their graves if they could see what goes on now.

Re: delete this please
It's a sad state of affairs that and people have to park like this in the first place to protect there property. If society wasn't going downhill and people actually respected others properties then people like the OP could park his car in one space and 'if' by human error which happens someone dinks it, they'd leave a note then it's not even an issue if this occurs.
I park my car literally the furthest space away, I near enough need a bus or taxi to take me to the store where I park but even at Christmas I have the knowledge the nearest car to me will be in a different postal code area. It eliminates all elements or risk of whats happened to you I 'personally' wouldn't park across 2 spaces but thats not the debate the debate is that someone has 'knowingly' damaged someone elses property and driven off. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO RESORT TO THIS TO PROTECT MY CAR
I can see bam_bam's point and I can also see how other drivers who are green-eyes jealous monsters might even on purpose get a kick out of damaging a car parked across 2 spaces it does give the opinion that this person thinks they have there own set of rules. Obviously your just protecting your property but I'm only stating what my thoughts would be.
As said though:-
1.) People shouldn't have to resort to having to take these measures
2.) Society is on the down, people don't have money and if they get a chance to not have to pay out they will do a runner.
I really hope you get it sorted. Get some more quotes £1,200 is to high

Re: delete this please
I know excatly what you mean, whilst i dont take up two carparking spaces i always look for bigger spaces, on the end or where there are 3 free bays, been hit by other cars before, anoyingly once a week after having a door resparayed to repair damage from a car park - waste of money that was !!!!!
I put this sort of act down to the same level as people that cant be assed to return their trolley, just chuck it into the trolley return bay so it rolls out again, leave their food and rubish on the tables at shopping center eating areas, parking in mother and baby bays when they dont have children .
It all comes down to the way our children are being educated and not taking any pride or giving repsect to others, been going on for years and its only getting worse.

Re: delete this please
the trolley ones are the worst...just last week i watched someone push their trolley to the side and the wind pushed it straight in to a range rover and their was damage.....the man just got straight in his car and drove off....he saw it all happen aswell...but i got his reg number and put it on the winscreen of the range with a small explanation of what happened to his car.....range rover was brand new......
Re: delete this please
You're missing the point, you're not protecting your property, you're drawing attention to your property. Even if you go and find a run of open spaces/quiet area AND then park like an idiot, to me, that further exasperates the issue. The fact is; this <beep> has been happening since the car park was invented. I don't condone it, I don't like it but I use car parking establishments so I accept the risk that goes with them. What I do not do is break the rules, draw attention to my parked car and generally come across as a greedy or inconsiderate individual. Whether the car park is full or not, there just isn't an excuse, not one. Thoughtful people just don't park in more than two car spaces, full stop, it's bad etiquette and you're no better than the people who do damage and drive off. Ergo, your ACTIONS put you directly in the league of people you despise so much, how does that feel? Question: What if there was a quick run on the car park? What if you didn't know ASDA had a two-for-one on 4ltr White Lighting and the car park filled in 15mins? You'd be that a*sehole taking up the last space in a full car park. Or, how about his, EVERYONE started being self-important just like you? Now everyone straddles two car spaces whenever going to ASDA. Logical solution, innit?
I felt for the damage done to your RS, I truly did, until I'd read you parked across two spaces. But don't worry, you've proven two things:
Number 1. That parking across two car spaces isn't a solution for anonymous car park dings and scraps.
Number 2. Even though you, yourself has proven parking across two spaces won't protect your car, you'll continue to do it anyway.
Ok, I'm parking in a an area where people just don't give a toss. I know, I'll park like a tosser too! What's more, I'll do so with an expensive car. There, that should give everyone a perfectly good reason to not target my car.

I nearly always park at the back of car parks, but there's one car park in particular where the spaces are so narrow (a bit like Bam-Bams mind!) that i park across two bays!
