That is now Audi's storey - not so sure i believe it - the report says logged by insurance company, not so sure someone would call their insurance company to make a claim same day car was stolen (i could be wrong).

Anyway the voice message from audi was obviously trying to make out it wasnt a big issue (they would as they part ex'ed it without knowing) trying to keep the price up. In my mind i either walk away or 6K min has got to come off the price.

Just goes to show a £19.99 HPI check didnt pick up what a £2.99 my car check did.

10k off would be better :)

I may well end up walking away - but will go along for the test drive tomorrow with the wife and kids. See what Audi has to say. In my previous experience with Tonbridge audi i can see them sticking to the listed price and not budging at all. To which i will say good luck with selling the car and walk away, with a passing breath of anyone who googles the number plate will now know its stolen recovered :)

Bet the guy who part ex'ed it to Audi must be laughing his ass off that they didnt pick it up

i wouldnt be surprised at all - all for the sake of a £2.99 check.

Although i suspect some poor unsuspecting buyer will end up buying - then when he comes to sell it back they hit him with a knock down value due to stolen / recovered.

I am sure there are plenty out there with that history and it can be removed from the registers quite easily once it's been recovered.

I had exactly the same with an RS4 I nearly bought from the Sytner group in Doncaster. They had all the HPI checks saying it was clear and I was ready to buy it. While the sales guy was getting the documentation together I did the "text check" that you see on the tv. It came back stolen/recovered. I couldn't believe it, and neither could the sales guy. He had taken this RS4 in p/x for a brand new M3 saloon. Then the sales guy didn't believe it so rang the text check company up who confirmed this. He still asked if I wanted to buy the car, obviously I didn't. But as others have stated a £2,99 text check was well worth it!

Do not believe Audi dealers are hood winked into buying stolen/recovered cars. They know that HPI doesn't show it. If they don't do the additional check then they can sell it on saying it's HPI clear and they've genuinelly nothing else to declare. i.e. not their issue.

In some cases they do know a vehicle is stolen/recovered and still sell it on by just mentioning it's HPI clear but failing to mention it's on other databases.

An Audi dealer I know did the repairs to a stolen/recovered car (just internal trim where they'd tried to find the tracker) and then bought it in as a part-ex against another car. They offered a full px price as no doubt it will be sold on at full price.

Scotty i know what your saying - however now they know its stolen / recovered they should now declare it to any potential buyers - bet they dont though. May get a mate to ring enquiring about it :)

Audi may well offer full p/x on known S/R cars - but they are probably working on the basis they can find someone to sell it on to at full price. The fact is its going to have a lot smaller audience of buyers to the value has to tumble. Just looking on here and TSN almost everyone has said walk away.

of course thats also working on the basis you end up part exing it at the audi dealer - if you wanted to sell private your stuffed, and if you wanted to goto a different brand car and use it to part ex your probably be stuffed on the value again.

I am confused as there is a difference between a car being stolen and recovered to the owner with no pay out and one where the car was subject to a total loss and the owner got a pay out.
I am pretty sure that HPI would show the latter.
AFAIK If the car is returned without a payout then the only stolen marker should be that the car is still missing and to contact the police constabulary that has filed the alert but I could be wrong.
The dealer should get the person px'ing to sign a declaration that indemnifies the dealership from getting caught out like this.
As for Audi Centres selling on previously stolen cars, there was that B5 RS4 stolen off transporter that got registered on an 04 reg it was missing for so long, then there was that RS2 that was stolen from the dealership, debadged and converted to look like a TDI, then recovered, rebuilt and sold on by the main dealer although they did declare its history.

The fact is that the car HAS been stolen, and even if the record can be changed to remove it from the text check it doesn't affect that fact.

The one that I mentioned was a total loss and the ownerwas paid out. Yet it was still not identified until the text check. Car had 2 owners and was paid out to the 1st owner. Don't know what happened with the 2nd owner but he managed to pass it on to Sytner for a new M3!

If you don't buy it i'd say it will go out to trade now.
The more I here about Audi main dealers the more i'm convinced it's not worth paying the extra.
