I have had no issues apart from an airbox flap now going into 5 th year. However cars 4 years plus will start to need more attention. I like the DRC good ride good handling and if it needs replacing in its 6th to 7th year I am not complaing.

My DRC was replaced before i got the car.
I have had my oil cooler replaced because of the pipe join was to corroded.
My seat does not hold its inflation( i dnt think its worth the money to get it fixed, bit of a gimmick for me really).

Apart from that nothing has gone, touch wood.

RS4414, door handle fix is easy DIY for those with a steady hand.

I have a huge problem, don't drive it enough!

No problems here so far, but only owned it a month!!

I've had to sort out some bits that were bugging me but that's just me being me. Mines daily driven and used for everything. Did a full on Ikea run in it last weekend, beside cabinet, double bed, double wardrobe, 5 chest of drawers, a cabinet for my office and a couple of mirrors all in there! Tip runs, the lot.

It's not going to be dry stored, garaged or only driven in dry weather, it's going to driven and sometimes hard!

no RMS issues?

well in my 4 years, DRC has been the only issue, all replaced under warranty

oh hang on, the cigar lighter never worked so was swapped over (I don't smoke so had never noticed)

Seems like the "myth" of RS4 ownership is that lots goes wrong, but based on the replies here so far reality of RS4 ownership is that for most (not all) people the problems are few and usually sorted without hassle.

I guess most of the problems seem to happen under warranty. The problem is for those people owning cars outside of any warranty the costs can mount. Especially now cars are 5 years+

Heart says RS4, head says M3 saloon 2008-2009 can be had for about £30k with warranty. (If you had not guessed, baby on the way)

Ironically I found 2 door coupe's easier with 1 to 2 children than a 4 door.
The doors are bigger and open wider and importantly you can often put child in the back and then stand in the rear footwell with the front seat folded and buckle them in. With a 4 door you have to do everything from the side.
We still use swimbo's mini cooper s alot for journeys with 3 kids. He'll even used it for a week away packed for two adults, two kids incl Phil n teds double pram.

Back on topic, the only car I've never had any issues with is ironically (hmm - that's a lot of irony in a single post) is the 211 track car. Doesn't do big miles but the miles it does are much harder than most. Maybe it's cause I did a lot of preventirive maintenance.

That's a bit of a misconception in itself. My car will be out of warranty for 2 years come July and on to its 3rd MOT and the only thing like said before I have had to have fixed / replaced is discs and pads in that time. Pads circa £200 and discs circa £700 front and rear. Nothing else.

Like has bee said before forums have a tendency of promoting the worst because thet are discussions from owners who need help, the good bits rarely get aired although this site is better at that than most.

M3 is a good car but get something else for when it snows and be prepared for it to continue to depreciate more than the RS4 for the privilege.
