I had mine replaced earlier this year. Contacted insurance company who informed me that Autoglass were the 'approved' fitter and all I would have to do is pay the £75 excess and all the rest would be taken care of. Contacted Autoglass in Aberdeen who were clueless, couldn't even determine what windscreen was required. Told them I would go elsewhere whereby the guy said that in that case the insurance wouldn't pay. Corrected him on this by telling him he was talking bull. Contacted Adrain Flux and stated that I would be getting the local Audi dealer to replace the screen. No problem just pay the bill send it through and they would work with the insurers (Royal Sun Alliance) and refund minus excess. IIRC the total cost was around £400 for the job with Audi supplying the OEM part and a local specialist company fitting the screen at their workshop. Certainly no complaints about the whole process however had to wait 3-4 weeks for the refund.
All in all 3-4 weeks to wait for the cash back was worth it for the sole purpose of not having to deal with the Autoglass monkeys. Plus the repair is warranted under Audi.

I think my bill came in at £380 fitted (for a sight and light windscreen)

Actually another extremely positive dealer experience at Keith's garages - Aylesbury Audi.

Graeme,
My mum cracked her windscreen by a stone, got it replaced by insurance by Autoglass.
She then had problems with her new screen, i checked the maker's name against the other windows on her car and it was different.
I thought they would only replace windscreens "like for like" but they don't !
Took it back to Autoglass asking why they had fitted a different make of windscreen to the original and was told "Because you didn't ask us to " !!!
Got a replacement widscreen same as all the other glass on her car when i told them that is what i wanted.
Typical insurance "go the cheapest" route !!

The reason I mention that Autoglass had said their screen came from the OEM manufacturers was that I had asked if it cam from Audi. The answer was that is was from the manufacturer Audi get their glass from.
Since everyone else OEM is Saint Gobain and I'm Solarshield that just isn't the case. I am now at a point that I am so disenchanted with Autoglass that I don't want to FCUK on with them again in having it replaced a 4th time. If it cracks again I'll go to Audi or buy one myself and get an independent to fit it.
The irony on Thursday was that the fitter turned up and they had loaded a non rain / light sensor printed screen in for my car so they had to send another van with the right one for my car whilst the fitrter waited for it to turn up! Great record keeping since I had been there twice already!!

I recently had the experiance of getting the windscreen replaced, i am insured with admiral, after informing them about the situation, National windscreens contacted me to arrange for the car to be booked in, which i asked i wanted the OEM original windscreen putting back in, which they replied not a problem, it would just take a week to get the original screen in stock, so i said fine, and they fitted the original Saint Gobain screen for me, no extra cost just te usual £70 excess. which i was more than happy.
Had smillar issues with Autoglass(aberdeen) and insurance (direct line) to cut long story short i ended up cutting out the middle man.
Found the OEM windscrean and yes it was a third of the price autoglass were claiming. Got the job done through a construction plant glazing firm that i use they did an excellent job never know it had been replaced.
I paid the bill faxed the copy vat invoice to direct line and bang 5 days later had cheque for the bill minus £75 excess.
I had to tell insurance that autoglass were buggering about and cracked windscrean was in my line of sight but the never questioned. "sir if you can get it done for same or less then our approved installers just proceed and send in vat invoice"
easy lol
