No - it's not needed for cat back, and I'm getting much better timings on 3-8k runs (although have also had service, oil change & new plugs so not a level playing field)

Go on, you know you want to...

Final check post-mods done...until the next lot!
Damn - I'd have loved to see yours in the flesh. Is it running well, and how does it compare (performance wise) to Rob's funny Japanese thing?

I think it must have been Doug's most frustrating B5 job ever. Involved 4 engine pulls!

Cut a long story short, it runs like a rocket now, although it gobbles up huge amounts of cash and still needs a set of Dymags (I wish!), PSS9's and a few other bits and pieces.

One of the major problems is the standard bodywork will not allow you to run greater than 235's which means the car is under-tired for 480whp (about 170 more than my B7 made!). If you "widebody" the car obviously the restriction becomes what the B5 RS4 boys run which can be up to 19x9.5 and 265's, if not greater.

Last time it ran against Rob's funny Jap toy, the turbos were just about to let go. Having had a ride in the car Rob thought it would be faster...it feels like that on boost but in reality the GTR's gearshifts are what separate the cars.

At the top end I might come back past him but by then speeds are seriously illegal although all Rob would have to do is throw a Cobb on there and move the goalposts again!

I have yet to do some 60-130 runs but I expect in the 8-9 sec range.

It is a totally different experience from the B7.

The interior is dated although the BOSE is good, it rattles and rolls around at the moment on its 10 year old dampers, the cluster and a/c are shot, the xenon's are s**t, the brake bias is compromised by the monster RS6+ fronts and S8 rears, it is sometimes reluctant to start in the morning because of the low compression but when it goes, it goes and driving it as a far more involving experience.

Exactly what I wanted although I've spent a lot more on the mods in the last few months than I spent on the car!

PS: I have got a 2.75 Dual de-catted Miltek on the car. .. Another fan...

I was puzzled by the widebody comments, then twigged that it was an S4 - for some reason I assumed it was an RS

It sounds like you're thoroughly enjoying your money pit - the next step's probably off shore powerboat racing!

Hope to see it sometime soon...

Jeez! Reading this thread and I can feel my wallet about to be emptied... LOL. I really need a decent exhaust to make the car perfect.

You should come to the Kent meet on the 2nd Jan and listen to a few the RS4 with Millteks.

Do we have any noise figures for the various miltek setups?
Be a bugger to get one and find it's too loud for the track!

You will get away on track with any of the catbacks - When you start removing cats or running racecats or nocats it will get loud. Static tests are not too bad - 8500 rpm drivebay tests will be interesting though. The B7s are the loudests cars we test on the dyno by far.

98db(A) Non res 200 cell free flow down pipes tested in NON-SPORTS MODE. static, Hold at 3/4 Revs. I have found that the noise level has changed depending on what scrutineering bay does them (Brands I managed a 87db(a). The last one was at Cadwell Park. Most track days run at 105db(a).

Surely Sports mode is irrelevant at three quarter revs (in terms of flap position) or has your remap changed this?

Good point. The 'S' mode does effect the map but not the flaps. So flaps work normal.
