Carbon is an emotive issue and you'll get different reactions. But here's my 2p worth...
In the vast majority of cases power loss has been down to a problem with either the vacuum system (usually a pipe becoming detached) or one of the flaps (power flap or inlet tumble flaps) sticking/jaming.
The (very few) cases of power loss that have resulted in an investigation by Audi have usually found an engine fault, either due to driver/owner error or a genuine faulty build (very rare).
Others will have different views, but as said that's my 2p worth.

If its piece of mind your after and avoiding large bills then i suggest you read carefully through many posts on here regarding.....ahem "all component warranty" to assess for yourself what will and will not be covered.

I'd have thought a car without warranty would be worth £500+ less anyway, which would go most way to getting a WD warranty if you wanted one.
Personally, I'm risking running with no warranty now, just with the Audi breakdown cover.
Regarding the corroded pipes mentioned earlier in this thread - isn't there a service bulletin for that so should be done by a dealer FOC anyway?

If the pipes haven't failed then it should be picked up on the next time a dealer sees the car. If the pipes fail the presence of a service bulletin won't affect things outside of warranty - ie, chances are it won't be covered.

Audi warranty all day long.
Its all down to how well you know your dealer and how well they will handle the claim.
Some dealers (eg Camberley) will only play it by the book......

The pipe recall is different to the pipe corrison issue that I had. So no it is not covered FOC. I think 1 forum member did get a contribution from Audi UK for the corrision issue.
I will defo get some sort of warranty on mine when the approved warranty expires at the start of next April. I will decide closer to the time which one to go for. I like Audis, but having had 6 Audis in the last 10 years, they have all had problems (most of them potentially expensive). And that can't be bad luck.
