Car is booked in next week to bleed the clutch fluid as a conservative measure to see if we can eliminate the somewhat spongy peddle that occurs very occasionally.
Is the clutch fluid seperate to the brake fluid reservoir in the RS4 or is it all in one as such ?
Has anyone had problems with the slave cyclinder ?
I will also get them to check the clutch return pipe ?

If no improvment then new JHM Kevlar stage 4 clutch.
Comments would be really appreciated....

Mines got a similar thing with the pedal staying low,

Especially on downshifts, even more so if heel and toe'd.

Going in to Audi tomorrow to check, popped in at the weekend and they said it had already had the clutch pipe recall so hoping its not a new clutch or slave cylinder, as Im not sure where I am with the warranty on it.

1 yes, common resevoir
2 I haven't heard of many hydraulic issues other than the hose TSB, but everything fails eventually...
3 yes, this can hold the clutch engaged, overheating/slipping it

how many miles?
how old is the car?
has the fluid ever been flushed?

25000km, September 2007
brake fluid changed 22000km when brake pads changed

Arthur, When it gets hot, it can be diffiuclt to engage 1st gear, I am thinking clutch, however I aslo think it coud be the slave cyclinder due to the spongy feel and wooly feel occasionaly......

The guy I bought my car from had similar problems and left them and was around 20000km, eventually he took it in, and gear box and clutch had to be replaced so just go check it out and make sure everything is 100%

4th to 3rd was the most common change that mine did it. They basically changed everything bar the clutch pedal itself, before deciding that it required the gearbox off for a proper look. The garage told me they could see nothing to indicate a problem, nor could Audi HQ with the photo's sent through, so a new clutch was put in, which fixed it. Everything was telling me that the clutch plate itself was sticking when it got hot, but garage/Audi said not. Main thing is they did the right thing and also gave me a brand new A8 LWB to run about in whilst it was sorted.

I went in,

Took the tech out,

Car ran faultlessly !!!

tried alot harder in the wrong place at the wrong time and nearly paid the price !!

At this point the clutch played ball and duly stayed low and had the spngy/2stage feel to it.

At which point tech said he didnt know what it was and maybe their "RS Specialists" should have a look !!

I was pretty flumoxed - I said I thought he was meant to be the RS guy and he said he was up to a point, but that Southend was the principle RS dealership in the group, so its now booked in with them for full diagnostic.

What a waste of time !!!
