Mine was upgraded to 09. It was rough to drive for the first few minutes after startup - it cured it. It also sounds rather nice as well, I nearly always start up from cold with the door open.

If you hook VAGCOM up to the car, it'll tell you which SW version the car is running....

I've never heard that before, and it also doesn't make complete sense to me. Why?

My car came with 0050 but was upgraded to 0080 when I had it serviced in 2008, and was upgraded when I asked this year.

That implies that any car originally manufactured with 0050 or 0080 can be upgraded to 0090, and any car manufactured with 0090 already has it - so there would be no range of VIN numbers which 0090 could not be applied to?

Every other person who I have seen post regarding 0090 has said it's available to all RS4 owners on request.

Does your comment come because of the response of a single dealer to your request? We all know that dealer competence is "variable"...

Probably...

However, my situation was perhaps compounded by a situation which, if you recall, involved the MAF not registering a monotonically increasing trend in mass flow rate with rpm. Changing MAF's made no difference.

It was originally Doug at MRC who said that he had never seen such a trend in SW0090 cars (my car was SW0080), and suggested I get the car "upgraded" with the SW0090 software to see if that solved the problem.

Having got nowhere with the local dealer in that respect Camberley Audi - as usual - sorted me out.

I'm still extremely curious as to what they changed in the software that solved that problem!

I've noticed that with 0090 the exhaust note is much richer, and that economy has improved by maybe 10%. That's on top of the much faster initial cold idle (1600rpm or so for the first 30 seconds or so), and
much smoother running through the rest of the warmup phase.

So I reckon Audi have had a complete rethink on the fuelling and timing strategy used between 0080 and 0090.

Well, its been loaded and cold start is now much smoother. Would also agree with Dave on the economy - seems to have a little bit more ooomph as well :)

SW0040 came on the 2005/2006 models and SW0030 came on the De-restricted models. I jumped from 0040 to 0090. So it may well be production line orientation. does the chassis number indicate this?
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

Mine's a 2007 model (even though it was delivered in July 2006) which may be why it came with 0050.

Not sure what you're saying/asking here...

Just been in touch with one of the biggest Audi Centres in the UK and they have no knowledge of SW0090

The chap clicked the screen showing the service campaigns and it wasn't on there.

Anybody know what it comes under?

IIRC it is not a service campaign. It'll be under firmware updates?

Under wraps more like. Denied all knowledge of it.
Where do I go to get proof it exists?

He / she is (at best) ill informed, and realistically incapable of doing their job - it's been around for a year or so, and I can't understand how any RS4 tech doesn't know about it

If it helps, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you my VAG-COM scans (from April last year to Sept this) showing 0090 software

Very kind of you but TBH it'd be like talking to the proverbial brick wall.
I have emailed Audi Customer Services, failing that it'll be quattro GmbH and failing that it'll be a 2.0 TDI SE Auto courtesy car through their plate glass window

I'd have offered to do the same as Dom81.

I used to drive 330 miles round trip to Camberley for work on my B7 just because I got fed up of dealing with this kind of BS from service personnel who think that because they work for "Audi" they know about the car than I do...

Looks like you might soon be reaching the same point...

Just get it down to Rob and save yourself the hypertension.

I have found out about this 'advisor' as he used to work at VW where my tech used to work and they had a few words there
