That's my understanding, and that anything that comes up in the inspection is remedied. Further...Borgelite wrote:Am i right in saying you can buy a warranty for £1600 odd pounds even if its lapsed so long as you pay £200 for a milti pont inspection.
If you decide to purchase cover, please bear in mind that you must do this before the expiry of your current Guarantee and that your car has to have covered less than 100,000 miles and have full, up-to-date service history.
Sims this is odd as my warranty ran out about a month ago, phoned my local Audi and told them this. There reply was bring it down for an inspection (£200) if all is OK then will will extend it, even if your 3rd year has expired.Sims wrote:That's my understanding, and that anything that comes up in the inspection is remedied. Right, if the 3rd year had not expired you would not have had to pay the £200. That's the subtle difference for some people may have let the warranty expire, and then something goes wrong and they try to get the warranty. The Inspection protects Audi, as is right.Borgelite wrote: Sims this is odd as my warranty ran out about a month ago, phoned my local Audi and told them this. BMW introduced the same system in 2007, prior to that if you let your warranty expire you could never put the car under BMW warranty. sign of the times...
Well when i sell mine i will add the warranty and charge as much as Audi..Sims wrote:Right, if the 3rd year had not expired you would not have had to pay the £200. Yes, and why not for the warranty has a value. The main bonus is that a car with an Audi warranty is far easier to sell.Borgelite wrote:...

If I planned to keep my car for ever, wanted to mod it, & was mechanically gifted, I would not bother with the warranty at this prohibitive cost.

Have you considered the Inchcape warranty? if you are close enough to one of the garages in the group.

Dont think an expensive "all component warrenty" is covering you from all big bills because it isnt,a few guys have had clutches radiators etc fail and that would not be covered, carefull consideration needs to be given as to the cost of the warranty and what it is actuallly covering and the likelyhood of those parts failing.

Good point, at nearly £1700 upfront payment, alternatives have to be considered and evaluation made of whether it's worth it.lengster1 wrote:Dont think an expensive "all component warrenty" is covering you from all big bills because it isnt,a few guys have had clutches radiators etc fail and that would not be covered, carefull consideration needs to be given as to the cost of the warranty and what it is actuallly covering and the likelyhood of those parts failing.
It would be really good if people list the expensive bits that have gone wrong, and weather they would have been covered under warranty.
I suppose the main items are the engine, drive train, ECU's?
DRC covered by Audi for 5 years/75k miles, and Brakes are consumables really although I suppose discs have been replaced under warranty.
That's an excellent point. Something goes wrong, the Dealer will want you to authorise the diagnostics. And if the faulty part is not covered under warranty, you are left wih a big bill _ and no alternative but to get the work remedied by the Dealership since the car is in a hundred bits. All you can then hope for is some goodwill from Audi.aka_dk wrote:but its also the diagnostic and labour time involved, i.e. You may a relatively small and inexpensive part go wrong, but it would take 10hours to identify and resolve....yes main dealer rates are higher, but even at 50per hr its expensive
If your warranty has lapsed if going to cost in the region of 3k for a warranty. This has been brought in this year according to my dealer. Warranty Direct has stopped doing warranty's for now but they are going to be re releasing a warranty for the high end cars as they are losing out according to a man i had a chat with yesterday form W D.'R'e'S'pect_4 wrote:I was told 30 days after the expiry date was the cut-off point for rolling on the warranty, i guess with no inspection fee (£200).

Inchcape warranty well as far as I'm aware these are only warranty's within the trade...a little tricky trying to buy one over the counter.
