RS4's are still the car of choice of criminals, so I was told when stopped by the police last week

makes me nervous having it outside my house, but its a piece of metal, and if they want it they can take it - i wont be breaking any bones for it, unless they come upstairs, then they can meet my hammer !

Slightly off topic but swap the hammer for a saw - just think about trying to get hold of that! Once you've cut the intruders hands to shreds, you can then convince plod that you had been doing some DIY and that the saw was 'to hand'.

Any of you actually dreamed of catching some of these scum, tying them up in your shed or somewhere similar, and just setting fire to them? Or is that just me?

Sorry to hear that & glad you & yours are OK.

Had the same thing happen about 7 years ago when my 1st TT was stolen. Thieves put a half paving slab through my front door (kept half of it by the front steps in case i woke up & gave chase)

The noise did wake me, but by the time i'd come around fully the keys were gone & i saw my car pulling away at speed off my drive. It's an awful feeling.

Baggins - you're not the only one. Ever since I read this earlier this morning (I didn't reply at the time as I was so wound up by it) I've been thinking of all the things I would do if I got my hands on them. Jeez, I still have thoughts about the tw@ts that stole my bike when I was a kid. It sickens me that when you work hard to have nice things there is always the risk that some low-life might just decide that they have more right to it than you. I just know that if I caught someone trying to nick mine I don't think I'd be able to help myself.

I'm just so thankful that nobody was hurt during this sad episode but there's one thing, if it happened to me there is no way I'd let it put me off having another one. Once I did that then they've won and the whole fabric of society would start to break down in my opinion. The law should be much harder on these people and those that know who they are should come forward far more. Sh1ts like this are bound to be in the pub over the weekend bragging about driving an RS4 (to hell with the fact of how they got to drive an RS4!). Anyone who hears should be straight on the blower. And yes, the plod, once proven it was them, should allow you an hour on your own with them to do as you please.

Sorry to hear this, and as said by others, glad you and your family are ok.

Everytime I read something like this, thoughts of prevention, retaliation and revenge go through my mind!!!!

Oh, how I would love to have some time (and various tools) with this lowlifes...

If they are willing to get into your house, whilst you and your family are aleep, who knows what they are capable of. The right call would be to give up the keys, as cars can be replaced.

Mind you saying that, I have gone over a number of scenarios on how I would deal with an intruder whilst ensuring my family is safe  :D

I keep thinking about a 1.9Tdi badges, and I'm not joking. But maybe the scum that are after this type of car are much too smart to fall for that.

I'd have said these are cars are nicked to order. I would have thought a simple badge change wouldn't stop them realising it's an RS4. It's unfortunate but true.

wheels arches, wheels, exhaust etc too much of a give-away. I did it on a an E30 BMW 325i I had long long time ago, put 316i badge on it - but the body was identical. Good fun on Autobahns

When I say 'prevention' I mean something abit more obvious, like a collapsable bollard outside your drive or garage door, security lights which are so bright, they light up the street and neighbours think the suns come up early!
Even small things like Disclok's, pedal clamps, dog signs on front door of house maybe... the list goes on, end of the day, if they really want the car, none of the above will stop them, and if they are that serious about taking you pride n joy, is it worth risking your family's safety for?

IMO visual deterents will make any potential threats think twice, as they don't want to spend ages trying to bypass the disklok, or work out how to get car past the collapsable post etc.

P.S I don't think re-badging an RS4 to TDi badge will do anything, as these scum clearly know what they are after.

I can confirm what David was saying. The Police recently told me a similar story. That RS4's are highly prized as getaway vehicles now for 2 reasons - they are not so recognisible or as easily spotted by most Police officers as cars like Evos and Subarus are and that unless a Police helicopter is on the case they normally evade a ground pursuit.
