Remote opening boot lid
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Remote opening boot lid
An update, not good news. Firstly Audi supplied me with the same set of struts that are already on the car - same as the part no. I've mentioned already. They should have supplied me with a different strut which is not so strong. However, I have now been told that to achieve a remote opening boot I will require different hinges (supplied in a grey colour so would need painting) and also a different spring (wherever that goes). I was quoted £190 for the painted hinges but I stopped him there.
So what I thought and was led to believe by Audi as a simple mod, today turns out to be not so simple and not cheap either. Good old Audi (UK at least!).

Surely just a firmer damper would mean that once popped, the boot would fully open? May be stiffer to close, but essentially, it's held shut by the lock and then when unlocked it pops all the way?
Can't be rocket science? I could really use this as I'm forever needing to put stuff in the boot with full hands!

Are the boots meant to open on gas struts - mine clunks then opens itself but I didnt think there were gas struts, just a sping (although it does open in a controlled manner) maybe i'll have to have a closer look
I did find the uberella hanger though - result!!!!

Any one on here who has the Auto boot opening care to have a look at the strut S/N please, just the clear things up.

Factory fit on mine:
Two struts, same, 8E5 827 552 K01S
Plus i see a spring about half inch diameter, 8 inches long between boot lid and body on each side parallel to the hinge under a plastic cover.

rjk - can you see any part no.'s on the hinges?
Have a look here, http://www.tyresmoke.net/forum/audi-a4- ... fit-5.html
It seems you will need the struts, spring & hinges to attach the spring to

Ok my friend will get back to me in the morning regarding what is needed.
The thread on Tyresmoke is good, but still does not tell you the exact parts needed.
Just reading a simler thread on this and some guys are wishing they had not had it done, as it appears it is harder to close, all most stiff.

"I got auto boot lid opening as an option on my car - wish that I hadn't bothered!
It appears to be just a couple of stronger springs fitted to the hinges which pull the boot open when you release the latch. It's all well & good for openng it, but it means that you've really got to slam the boot down again to close it. If the boot lid is dirty, you risk scratching the paintwork due to the force required to close it.
If you try using the handle inside the bootlid, you struggle to get your hand out in time, due to the speed you've got to pull it down to overcome the springs!! "
Here are what the struts should look like.

So you have it then, does it work, have you tried it?karl wrote:Sonny - I read the Tyresmoke thread and from it managed to get the correct part no.'s. I won't be doing the mod though, mainly due to what you have quoted above - it seems I've got the right option on my car after all i.e. non remote opening boot lid!
Im keen to get this mod done, hence why I have took a interest in it.

Definitely have to slam harder.
Boot hinges part number (from ETKA not inspection):
Auto opening: 8E5 827 301D (or H for later models) - LEFT HAND SIDE, RHS is 302D/H
Non-auto-opening: 8E5 827 301C (or G for later models) - LHS, RHS 302C/G
My EKTA is a bit old, so may not be latest numbers. However, point is they're obviously different.
