The reason for no 7 Digit Post codes I was told by my local Audi Sales Manager is to do with the extra cost of the royalties that needs to be paid for this service.

Seems crazy when BMW now offer it and my 07 plate Range Rover Sport had it!!!

And the cheapo TomTom Navgiator application on my mobile phone does too!

IMHO this is another example which shows that Audi don't take sat nav seriously - remember we didn't get TMC working in the UK for many years because of a similar licence/royalty issue.

Audi just don't want to spend the money - and since their sales are bucking the trend by increasing they probably don't see any reason why they should...

Our '06 Disco had full postcode entry. 2010 MY Disc cost £125 from Land Rover, and has updated lots and lots of mapping errors

Would like it on the Audi, as I have had a few issues turnng up onthe right road itn eh wrong place

An update on the 2010 DVD...

It has the same software for the up to 2009 RNS-E (version 0650), but has newer software for the 2010 RNS-E (version 0150).

The maps are updated - at least roads in Belgium have been added that weren't there in the 2009_1 DVD.

I've got a 2010 RNS-E in my RS4...

They're only available with faceplates for the 8P A3, 8J TT and R8 - but if you can get one of those then you can swap the faceplate off your current RNS-E onto it, recode it and it works perfectly.

I got mine from a Dutch seller on www.audiforum.us called Haaggie.

So it's just a case of taking the RNSE out, disconnecting the faceplate (i.e. screen and buttons) and then connecting the 2010 main box and plugging it all back in and getting a dealership to recode the 2010 box to my car?

The faceplate is the bit of plastic around the screen and buttons.

It's a fairly intricate job swapping the faceplate over - some of the screws are hidden behind the screen and can be VERY tight. So you need a range of sizes of good screwdrivers (including Torx ones), a steady hand and some patience.

After the faceplate is swapped then it's a simple recoding job - I'd get someone local with VAG-COM to do it rather than trust a dealer!

The Post Office finally delivered my 2010 map DVDs this morning (they had been stuck somewhere in the UK since last Friday). Part number is 8P0 919 884 AN as expected.

New front cover (road winding up a mountainside), and a note on the rear says "The annually updated version of the navigation DVD can be obtained from your Audi dealer".

Will have a play over the weekend...

- Higher resolution display (800 x 480 instead of 400 x 240), with improved graphics and a GUI that looks much more like MMI.
- SDHC cards instead of SD cards, with 512 file limit removed, so you can up 64GB of MP3 files!
- In the A3 and R8 it can have AMI connected (for a proper iPod interface etc.) and I'm working on whether that's possible in an RS4 - I've got the parts and just need the time, weather, etc. to try it out.

There ISN'T an A4 version (so no 8E0 prefix) it's only made for the TT, A3 and R8 - so prefixes 320, 8P0 and 8J0.

The part number is 035 193 (the pre 2010 RNS-E is 035 192) followed by letters indicating region (US/EU) and whether it's got SDS or not. You really need to look it up in ETKA.
