I've just moved across from an E46 M3 to the RS4 the other week. Both completely different cars IMO. Don't think you'll notice the power difference that much (80BHP) but you'll definitely struggle going round corners and roundabouts a bit more! Great for me going from RWD to 4WD but I bet you'll have a job adjusting the other way.

In terms of cost, I reckon £15k will get you a decent 02/03 example. Make sure it's had the 1200 or so mile run in. FSH is important although I wouldn't necessarily say it had to be BMW. I used a good indy when it got pricy to fix! And things will go wrong so perhaps try and buy from BMW to get a year warranty. On the plus side, I got about 25mpg whereas I'm getting 20mpg just now. Tax will also be half the price at about £220 per year.

It's a rawer car as well so consider that but you'll find that out when you drive it.

Any specific questions just give us a shout.

Not sure if you need something practical but if not then a good choice in my opinion would be a 350Z. You get a lovely note from that V6.

Other car in the garage is a remapped Leon Cupra.
4 doors, 315 bhp, Audi parts and good residuals. Great car.

I've done this today, the cab has gone
(a change in work circumstances, now being only 2/3 miles from home, wouldn't even give the v8 a chance to warm up fully)

What have I replaced it with......
I managed to find a minter low miler(26k) Mark 4 R32, wanting to limit to a budget of about 10/12k and couldnt think of what else to go for, want some sort of nice noise with the bonus of 4wd (I know its part time), probably the oldest car I have ever bought, but the 160 mile journey home was pleasently suprising.

Naturally doesnt have anywhere near the kick of the RS4 but I have to say for its price it trys hard

D2 Audi S8 or BMW 335D, both of which I have! Will be upgrading to a C6 RS 6 or B7 RS 4 soon.

Just before I thought about selling my RS4 my dad had his R32 up for sale. He offered it to me at a great price, but I stupidly turned him down not really wanting to part with mine. Now, his has gone, and so has mine. His car was immaculate, and I don't think I'd get anything as good for anywhere near what he wanted for it. I don't think I could get one for that reason alone. :( Stupid I know, but it would bug me everytime I got in it (and I'm sure he would also remind me of my mistake everytime I saw him).

I think I have made a decision. I'm going way above budget, but hopefully it will hold it's value well. I am pretty set on going for a CSL. A friend might be selling his soon, and I'm willing to hang on for it.

Thanks for all the advice though. Some nice input from all of you.

If you want details of a low mile CSL, just had inspection 2 and fresh detail this week and still under warranty till next year, drop me a pm

I would have gone for it had it not been for the reason for selling the RS4, work only being 2/3 miles away, they are great cars and holding quite a niche
