No need to change the track names, just use an M3U playlist instead.

I use freeware called Playlist Creator 3 to make a playlist, and I can then easily edit the display names using e.g. notepad.

I've been following this thread as I wanted to do the same thing, rather than buying an ipod adaptor. I've bought an sd card reader and downloaded software to convert the aac files to mp3's, but whatever I put on the card the screen in the car just says 'loading' and it seems to do this indefinitely. I even tried just putting 3 tracks on the card but it still seems unable to load. Any ideas? The software is called all music converter, and incidently I can't use it again because when I started it this morning it launched an uninstall program, I had to disconnect the power to stop it but the program won't run now, says it can't find the exe file. I paid about 22 quid for it last night so although I've run my existing playlist through it I'm not best pleased!

Just to add, the software I can probably sort, might have to download it again, but I'm baffled by the problem with getting the car to actually play from the card, surely it should load up almost instantly?

It should but it doesn't.

Depending on the size of the card and the number of files on it there can be a delay of maybe a couple of minutes. It appears that on a cold start it reads every file on the card before it displays any info about what's on the card or starts to play any files.

Ok, I'll try leaving it longer. I did just leaving the ignition on earlier and went back after 20 minutes, still loading, but I've since spotted another thread where it says to format the card in FAT32 which I've now done. I have also just spoken to someone at my local dealer and he's going to ask his colleague.

FAT32 is the most reliable format.

If it hadn't loaded after 20minutes then something is wrong.

I came to the conclusion after reading stuff on another forum that the card was the problem, it's a 4gig sdhc as opposed to just sd, so I went and bought a 2gig sd card tonight and guess what - it's faulty, or at least it keeps throwing up errors, some of the files won't load (device not ready) some load but are corrupted, and I can't delete them...this is getting silly and I am running out of patience. I have so far spent about 70 quid on cards, card reader, software etc and gotten nowhere! I have a card which isn't compatible, another which is buggered, and converting software which tried to uninstall itself and no longer works! I've also wasted around 6 hours of my time so far! :bash:

After calming down and having a think whilst walking the hound I have started again with the non hc card and found that as long as I opened each mp3 file and sent it individually instead of sending folders or batches of files I could get it to work. a bit long-winded but I have a result so I'm happy now! :D

It's been said many times here and elsewhere that the RNS-E does NOT accept SDHC cards - so any SDHC card is a waste of money.

SD cards can cause problems if they are not Hi-Speed ones - I used to have an old RNS-E that worked just like you say in that it only worked if I copied files individually (a real PITA) and I found out that the cause was I had bought a cheap non Hi-Speed card. As soon as I changed to Hi-Speed cards all was OK. Having said that my current RNS-E, a newer one, seems fine with any SD card.

The "device not ready" error message you mention suggests to me that you have a non Hi-Speed 2GB card.

I think you're right, in fact the 2GB card I'm using is a micro sd mobile phone card with an adaptor, this being the only thing Asda had and nowhere else to try on the way home last night. It works fine now but I will buy a high speed (and non hc) card when I go somewhere next. It's been a real learning curve over 48 hours and the information on here has been absolutely invaluable - thanks!

Hi chaps. Been reading this thread and also want to finally get some sounds in the car using the SD slots. Have just been listening to the same soundtrack for the last year-and-a-bit - the V8 one! And as good as that sounds, now want some music.

Dave, which cards would you personally recommend for the RNS-E (mine could be an early RNS-E as it is a 2004 RS6+). Any links to a site that can supply them?

Many thanks, Mo.

I usually buy unbranded SD cards from various suppliers including some from a seller in Hong Kong off eBay.

Try www.expansys.com, Kingston, Transcend or ByteStor from Amazon

I would second Kingston memory cards, they do the job and have lasted just as well as my Sandisk Ultra II's. Get all mine from www.mymemory.co.uk
