Happening in a FSI engine near you...now!
So are you going to put the manifold back on and then use the Wynns product and then re-inspect?..would be very useful to see if the product actually works, and or to see how many applications is needed to remove the build up.pippyrips wrote:Have no fear silver, all under control
Wynns do make an fsi cleaning product, (I've got some in the shed!) however i didn't use it before the manifold was opened up as I wanted to show the true state of the inside. I may well use the wynns product to try and stop buildup from happening again once cleaned along with a.n. other method yet to be confirmed.
How many other FSI engines (Pre B7 RS) have Audi put i there cars, surly that are fully aware of these symptoms.
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

I am absolutely stunned!!! I have rebuilt a few engines over the years and I can honestly say that I have never seen a 100,000 mile engine let alone a 19,000 mile engine in that kind of condition. The valve stem oil seals will need replacing in the very near future looking at those valves. Dread to think what the valve seats look like. Has anyone got a higher mileage car that they are willing to open up to have a look inside? Could this be a reason why so many cars have a large power difference when dyno'd?

Don't for get that APM's car was JonP's and he did massive motor way miles in it everyday which could make a difference??? Still be interested to see what it's like. Black and gunky I would say!!! Mine has done 12k and I will soon be opening it up! but I know for sure if Caldy's car with 3500 miles on it looked not far off Pippyrips then mine will be just as bad!!
It will be very interesting to see what difference there is between cars on the 18th

I have a 45K mile car, likely to be 46K by the time I get to the meet but to be honest I'll wait to see the r/r results first before even considering opening up the engine to see what the appreciable difference is between what my car is producing and what some of those that have been 'cleansed' are.
Here is a good, but involved, link on the function of the flaps and vanes in a DI engine:

I'll be writing to Audi to see what they suggest I do to my engine in light of the above.

I know of a 40k mile 2.0 FSI Golf that had to have an EGR valve due to sludging up like this.

1 in how many 2.0 FSI golfs produced? Not trying to belittle what you have said; just there are a myriad of factors that could cause 'sludging up' from the type of fuel used to the way it is driven to the parts put in the engine. And as yet there are no tangible results to say that what is going on in FSI engines is significantly detrimental to performance beyond the placebo effect?neckarsulm wrote:I know of a 40k mile 2.0 FSI Golf that had to have an EGR valve due to sludging up like this.
