What about Castrol EDGE Sport vs Castrol EDGE? Also, what is the multigrade that you recommend for the RS4's engine? 0W40? 10W40? 5W30? 0W30?GBrownlow wrote:I work in the motor industry for a car manufacturer, unfortunately not Audi, and recently had a meeting with some of the major oil suppliers.
I won't bore you with the details of a 3 hour presenatation and analysis of oil performance but Castrol Edge clearly came out on top against Mobil, Shell etc
Titan Fuchs was not included in the study so I can't comment on that but with our high performance, high costs engines I will definitely use Castrol Edge regardless of cost.

Do you supply your own oil for servicing an RS4?

Audi don't specify a grade, they specify a VW oil standard. ANY oil that meets that standard can be used, and any oil that does NOT meet that standard should NOT be used. Just look on the can/bottle/container for the relevant VW spec (it's listed in the service book and owners handbook that should come with the car).

I drive past Opie Oils almost every month...
No effort whatsoever.
However, it is big effort to ascertain whether an oil is f**king with your car...
In the grand scheme of things, an extra oil change or two every 5000 miles instead of every AVS, makes sense on a £55K car!
The negligible amount of effort and cost is absolutely worth it.

Last time I walked into an Audi dealer and asked for a top-up for an RS4 they asked for my registration number, checked the correct spec on the system and duly provided me with a litre of oil that, on later inspection, was not suitable for my car. (makes coughing noise that sounds like "Grimsby Audi")
Supply your own. At least then you know that you're getting the right oil. It is, after all, a £55k car.
Due to "Block Exemption" rules, the warranty stands as long as the oil is approved (ie correct VW code). I suspect dealers refuse due to the fact that they sell it for more than Halfords and therefore must make a fortune on the mark-up.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've ordered from them before so have logged in, but 12l (3x4l) are coming up at £121.59SR71 wrote:Until 17/10, Opie Oils have another 15% off sale.
12L of Titan Fuchs will therefore cost you about ~£75.
Even with a 15% sale (which there doesn't seem to be, unless I need a code) it would be well over £100, so not sure how you get £75??
Any ideas much appreciated...

Dom81,
The difference might be that I'm a member of their site and I get their promotional emails which recently included a promotional code for the present offer. I've PM'ed you the code.
That said, the price of 4L has gone up since I last bought, from about ~£33/4L to just over £40/4L.
I'm not sure that choosing your oil is purely subjective.
Its just that most of us aren't industrial chemists who spend our live studying oil. We look at the relevant spec and think, "Ah thats good enough."
Fuchs is the factory fill oil with some super base chemistry, which I'm sure Guy will tell you about if you order the oil from them. If you read the thread which includes RI_RS4's comments, it seems to be a good oil for our application.
Fuel dilution is my biggest fear.
My $0.02.
