My mate just tried to PX his Range Rover V8 Diesel ( all extras) 8 months old as new. Trade offered 22K LESS than he paid for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
5000 miles on the clock, needless to say he's gutted.

V8 Chelsea Tractor ..... the very sort of vehicle that is being "demonised" by the Government and Greens, making nobody want to buy it.

Even if they made 6k on selling it knock off 40% vat and tax and its not such a realistic financial gamble in todays market ?? I had a similar shock when touting a CSL about to traders :-(

Best trade price @ £37,500 [/quote]

Thats a very fair bid. The best I got on my very well spec 'd 07/57 Avant with 5000 miles was 39k in August. RS4's are depreciating by 1,400 quid per month at the moment and most stealers cheque books are closed.

Very hard to say. I reckoned my car would depreciate by another 7k between August and the end of this year if the current climate continues. Therefore, a well spec'd 2007/57 Avant with 7-8k miles would be worth approx 30 - 31k trade, 33 - 34k private sale.

Could these cars be worth 20 - 25k in 12 months time? Very possible IMHO. You just have to look at the hit new shape M3's, M5's, Porsches are taking to see where the secondhand values are going. This will drag RS4's values down.

So not too far from a good condition B5 then really? or will the B7 drive the B5 prices down?

A few months ago oil was $147/barrel. Now Brent crude is less than $100/barrel.

It only has to drop a few more $ and the price on the forecourt, ought to be below £1/litre again.

How many people were talking about ditching their 4.2's when that was the case?

Somehow, the value of anything that does less than 25mpg has been decoupled from reality.

Personally, IMHO, the best way to ride this out is sit tight and enjoy until the madness around you subsides.

That depreciation curve isn't linear, and unfortunately, there isn't a £50K car out there that isn't taking a hit, so how are you quids in if you sell up?

I don't get it, but thats just me.

Due to economic circumstances, my short/medium-term investment just became a long(er)-term one so I don't get bit.

I suspect B5 RS4's may actually hold better than the B7's as there are a lot more B7's around. Still if you enjoy the car, then enjoy the car unless you bought it as an investment..

The cheapest way to run a car that I know of is to run it till its dead :D

For me it's a bit like the housing market............ I'm unlikely to take the value motoring route so what ever car I'm going to want to own I'm buying and selling in the same market!?!

At least we have some exclusivity on our side!!!!!

Just saw my old RS4 Avant for sale on Bentley forecourt for £41,999, bought as I said for £37500

Bently on 3 day week, and six people made redundant from dealership from which I bought new car ( not Bentley by the way ).

Market desperate, petrol prices do not make difference with this car market IMO....problem far greater. It's tight out there and going to get tighter.

Agreed, I'm running my B7 for a good few years yet and I'm not worrying about the mileage or the depreciation. Mine, there may not be as many B7's around in the future, have you seen the number that are available as parts that are being broken after serious smashes?
