Carbon scoop oil intake
Rob,
The engine is designed for these high temperatures. In order to compensate for increased cooling, you'll need to adjust the oil so that the viscosity at operating temperature is the same as it was stock. This will ensure the proper oil flow, bearing hydrodynamic lift, and internal drag reduction. Otherwise, internal wear and fuel consumption can increase.
Since you already run 5W30 weight oil in Europe, with enough cooling, the operating weight could potentially be reduced to a 5W-20 racing oil. Essentially, you want the viscosity at the new operating temperature to be the same as it was previously at the higher temperatures.

Yes and no....
VAG Parts are keen to get them advertised, but it is a slow process. We have discussed things and I'll be getting one to them next week for pictures etc to be taken so as it can go on the website.
Give me a kick next week or better still, call them and ask for prices...if they know there are orders coming in, it will speed things up I am sure.

Not so sure it was designed to run at 122ºC to 128ºC which is what we see in southern Spain with slightly energetic road use, I for one would love to add cooling even if that means adding another oil cooler with a thermo to aid oil performance.RI_RS4 wrote:Rob,

MikeD Im with you.
As soon as you start using the engine for even short periods of time the Oil temp rises. Ill be happy to keep it as low as possible. I would assume the standard operating range for the Oil temp would be 90-110deg C.
Does anyone know more about this or is this another research topic?
