Rob,

The engine is designed for these high temperatures. In order to compensate for increased cooling, you'll need to adjust the oil so that the viscosity at operating temperature is the same as it was stock. This will ensure the proper oil flow, bearing hydrodynamic lift, and internal drag reduction. Otherwise, internal wear and fuel consumption can increase.

Since you already run 5W30 weight oil in Europe, with enough cooling, the operating weight could potentially be reduced to a 5W-20 racing oil. Essentially, you want the viscosity at the new operating temperature to be the same as it was previously at the higher temperatures.

Yes and no....

VAG Parts are keen to get them advertised, but it is a slow process. We have discussed things and I'll be getting one to them next week for pictures etc to be taken so as it can go on the website.

Give me a kick next week or better still, call them and ask for prices...if they know there are orders coming in, it will speed things up I am sure.

Hey Rob, what is the website for vagparts, the UK one Im guessing.

Looks good and more than happy to have anything thats lighter and gets the oil temp down in the car. Dont like seeing up to 140deg on the track and Brisbane is never that cold so no probs here.

Not so sure it was designed to run at 122ºC to 128ºC which is what we see in southern Spain with slightly energetic road use, I for one would love to add cooling even if that means adding another oil cooler with a thermo to aid oil performance.

MikeD Im with you.

As soon as you start using the engine for even short periods of time the Oil temp rises. Ill be happy to keep it as low as possible. I would assume the standard operating range for the Oil temp would be 90-110deg C.

Does anyone know more about this or is this another research topic?

Just back from holiday. VAG parts are waiting on me. I have been playing with a gurney flap to make it easier to manufacture whilst increasing air volume through the cooler. All the testing is being done on my car so take a little more time than expected...
