had the tires fitted on Saturday morning in Wilmslow, but thanks for the info. Good to know for future reference.

To be honest, I don't like going away from OEM spec rubber, and wet grip is most definitely NOT a problem in this car.....

I've done 10k and all 4 are showing signs of needing replacement. Not unusual wear, in fact their evenly worn across all 4.

Further more the car is driven by the Mrs, carrying our baby daughter, so theres no excessive driving that have contributed to this.

looking at them the weekend I checked the pressures - they were all set to 30PSI!
The tyre warning has never come on until Friday (hence the check at the weekend), so I (in my ignorance) have never checked them.

I can only conclude that as the light has never come on, that the car came from Audi with the tyres only inflated to only 30PSI.

I have since inflated them to 39\36 PSI (Front\Rear) and the car now drives as i expected it should have when i bought it.

In my mind I have always been of the opinion that it was a little "stuck in the mud" on the steering and always thought I should check the tyre pressures, but never in fact got round to it.
(I rarely get to drive it for myself)

Lesson learnt! However I am still very disapointed with Audi that the car left them with under inflated tyres and now has badly worn tyres after just 10k

My car needs all four tyres replaced at 9500 miles.

They're slicks at the moment.

£700 fitted for 275/30/19 96Y Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics.

Pressures monitored so I don't think you've lost out much due to your under-inflation.

lol, Why change to a tire that is so far from OEM specs for the sake of 200 quid over 15000 miles?

Presumably because they don't make the Goodyears in 255/35 guise at the moment?

And if your new tyre is going to last 15000 miles not <10000 like the stock P-Zero's (i.e., a 50% improvement), in actual fact the saving is more like half the price of new P-Zero's, plus the saving, which I make about £600+.

If you do 20K miles a year, then it is a saving of over a grand, for a tyre that supposedly is better than the P-Zero anyway...

My $0.02.

Free delivery and not bad on price. I believe the Vredesteins are good at £158.90 a tyre.

Has anyone tried these tyres before:

Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R

If so, what are your thoughts on them?

Well, the curent set of Pirelli P-Zero did 16K Miles, not 10K.

But still, I don't understand why you would change something so critical as a tire to the feel/performance/grip/handling of the car so far away from OEM spec. Surely they chose the 255/35 size for a reason? If the car performed/felt better on 275/30 wouldn't they fit those as standard?

Cost and availability might be a factor...

If you are happy with the OEM tyre in the OEM size, then why change it indeed. For me, I chose the Goodyear as the reviews pointed towards it being a better tyre (and my expericne to date would tend to agree). It is a new tyre and has not been available for long and it is much cheaper, surely that is a bonus? I have nover heard of anyone wanting to pay more for the same product..?

As for the size, it is not yet available in the 255 size. As for it not being an OEM tyre, do not for one minute think they (Audi) chose the Pirelli or the Michelin as it was the best tyre, if they did it would have been on the car throughout the production run. The fact is that the manufacturer buy them in bulk and buy whatever is cheapest at the time (within reason). Had the goodyear been available at the time of build and had they done the tyre in all the sizes Audi needed and had them provided the cheapest quote, I am sure they would have won....

As a matter of interest do you run anything other than std in the car? Such as different oil or replacement air filter etc. A similiar argument can be applied.

My OE set of PZeros only made 9k miles.

Currently on PS2 and done over 11k miles with several k left.

Several guys in the US are using the Bridgestones in 275/30x19 size, but as said they are a soft tyre so don't expect much life from them.

I certainly plan to try the Goodyears in 275/30x19 next time.... PROVIDED someone can answer my earlier question about different wheel arch shapes on the Avant.

I'm always smiling :)

Slight mis-understanding here: when I say OEM size, I mean the original size/ratio/aspect tire. Obviously brand of tire is subjective depending on previous experience, prefered requirements (longevity, dry/wet grip etc), price point, etc.

My question was only aimed at a change of size away from stock/OEM size, not change of brand of tire. Sorry for the confusion.

Maybe it's just me, but I like to stick with what I know. I "know" the P-Zeros now, just like I "know" the PS2s on the Cayman. They may not ultimately be the best for each car, but they are what they are. Moving away from either "may" turn out to be an £800-900/12 month mistake. OK, it "may" equaly turn out to be an improvement, but I don't get the gamble.

Maybe that is it. I just don't like to gamble on a change :)
