Re: Future RS4
Well what comes my way gets sent straight back I say! Battlestations I feel like Cuba Gooding Jr. in Pearl Harbour! I woud LOVE to be coming to Castle Combe on the 2nd, but I cannot (assuming that question was aimed at me, which it probably wasn't). Unfortunately my old man is sceptical about track days, mainly because he'd poo himself at the first corner (he's worried about his baby getting hurt - fair play). I am trying to convince him to come to a meeting sometime though, and hopefully he'll get hooked!

Can't beat a bit of boost!
Re: Future RS4
stupid question popped up in my mind :Will the new RS4 will be available as sedan? I kind of hope not, I always found the true RS should be an Avant...
Btw does anyone knows salesrates of RS6 sedan vs Avant??

Never...... unless they wanna make loads of money
The core of USA customers would reqire S4 in a Saloon version, it would sell very well there if it complies with the importation rules that apply.
But Europeans tend to favour the Avant as its more inline with the "family man " ideal that it portrays.
Just look at thr sales of RS6 sales in the UK more Avants than saloons.
Cheers

Re: Future RS4
Also there is less competition for the RS6 Avant. The RS6 saloon has put Audi head to head with the likes of Mercedes (SL55AMG), BMW (M5), etc.

Re: Future RS4
Yes, good point, but there's a E55 AMG break coming, still no match for the RS6. it will probably, certainly be faster in the straight line, but will be blown away once the road turns
By compromising in favor of the US market, i think Audi RS models lost some of their purity...An RS has to be an Avant.Period

Re: Future RS4
Do we know when the new RS4 is out? or is it all pie in the sky.
Re: Future RS4
The more I think about when the next RS4 will be released, the more I reckon it will be tied to the success or otherwise of the RS6. Traditionally yes, the RS models have come out towards the end of model lifecycles, and have had planned limited production runs.
Not so with the RS6. And if the good people down at Wellingborough arent being kept sufficiently busy building engines specific to that model then either :
1. RS3 / RS8 becomes a reality
2. RS4 production is brought forward, but not so much so that it hurts potential S4 sales.

Good or bad news?
a dutch magazine, autovisie, reports in there current issue that the new RS4 will share its engine with the current RS6, so it will have a twin turbo-ed V8...but with smaller turbo's which will reduce the power to 420 hp...
they also mentionned that the production-car is as good as ready, so it won't take long any more...
the information comes from an reliable intern source.

Re: Good or bad news?
Hmm.. interesting.. but much as I had thought.. where else is there for them to go...
There arn't many engines in the audi camp that can produce over 400bhp!!
I'm lead to believe that the turbo's on the RS6 arn't very big , and I expect that rather than change them they will just use engine managment to keep the bhp lower

Re: Good or bad news?
The VW Tuareg V10 5.0L TDI 313hp does 7.8s for 0-100 km/h, while the Tuareg V8 4.2L 315hp needs an extra 0.3s (8.1s).
The Cayenne S V8 4.5L 340hp does 7.2s.
But then diesel engines only got serious attention from engineers in the past 10 years.
So who knows what will be powering the utter beast in 5 years time ?
