Its a lead But it took the fitters a couple of hours to do as its not as simple as just plug it in! Mine is in the glove box next to the cd changer as it keeps the iPod out of view and there is no need to see it as all controls are done by the head unit and none of the buttons on the iPod do anything. It also charges the pod. It also disengages the video in motion so you can use all functions whilst driving! And the steering wheel controls also control it!

I think it's around £500 fitted I haven't paid for mine as it is not compatible with my mac formatted pod !!!!

So what is the lead called Simon and can it be purchased anywhere? Also does the ipod just lie in the glove compartment loose or have you got it in a holder. Thanks

Next time buy here a calculater which has lots of buttons and get the proper wheel!! :D infact I believe I saw a link for one on Ebay! Although I have to say I think Audi should have made the flat bottom wheel with stereo and phone buttons.

Totally agree with you, I would really like the flat bottom wheel in suede but with the phone / stereo buttons!

P_G wrote:On original question, stick with 2GB SD cards and CD changer, the OEM Audi i-Pod link is pretty limited IMO having used it in my old car and binned it within a matter of weeks. However Simon's solution does sound interesting.

And with 2 SD cards and CD changer you have access to approx. 70 albums, are you likely to need to listen to more than that? If so, carry another couple of SD cards and then you have over 140 albums that are properly accessible and listed.
I'd have to agree wholeheartedly on that. I have the OEM iPod link in my S3 and, although its better than the 6CD player alone, having the 2 SD cards on the RSN-E really negates the need for an iPod.

Now that would be nice. I think the DIS buttons would have been better on the indicator stalk, bar the stopwatch button if you track the thing. Sport mode, phone, and stereo controls in suede will do nicely. :D

Curiously, how do you know if you've got a Windows formatted IPod?

Do people still use CDs? For me, iPod and SD cards are the way to go.
