It's the ESP, or rather Traction Control.

Turn it off and you won't observe the behaviour.

hmmm...may get the dealer to look at mine then just in case.....will wait till I've got 1k miles on the clock then try again.....have found that it's not jerky if i reapply the throttle more gently on gearchange....but i'm trying to drive it like it should be driven, quick shifts and straight back on the throttle which works fine in the higher gears but gives me a kangaroo hop in 1st/2nd!!

Audijohn....if you've not taken the car to 6k revs in 1st/2nd then it probably won't be as noticeable......

Have found the same. Tried to change from 1st to 2nd quickly on a dry road and the car lost power and picked up again. 1st and 2nd gear changes are hard to perform smoothly, I am kangarooing unless im very slow adn deliberate. Mine is an 07 with 2k miles on the clock.

Run mine in very hard and on the rolling road it produced the highest standard power out of a dozen the a tuner out on the rollers!!!! (this topic is a very individual thing - not critising anyone for their opinion by the way)!!
Did my run in sort of by the book with a couple of indiscretions.
the issue with the stutter is solely down to the ESP. Turn it off and it goes away. Apparently its to save the transmission. The gearing in third and fourth + are long enough not to rip the diff apart on a full bore upchange.

I'll wait till i've put about 1800 miles on it then I'll give it a go with the ESP off......but not too often mind you if I'm in danger of buggering up the transmission!!

Good point, but I will NOT in all probability use Ist gear much anyway, if on a hill or incline I use it, If not I don't use it at all, once away in 2nd, then I boot it with no probs.

Jesus!
Drive it like you want to drive it, if the transmission cant handle the power then take it straight back to the dealer. What was this car built for again?

True to an extent, however a degree of mechanical sympathy is required. This isn't in reference to this thread, but it does rather annoy me when people post along the lines of "I've been launching at 5,000+ rpm (or done lots of track days) and the clutch/gearbox went...I expect the dealer to sort it on warranty". It is a series of mechanical components and if you drive the tits off it all the time, it will break...as do race cars which are designed to take the abuse.

Having said the above, on a production car the clutch will be the weak link, especially in a 4WD car. It will break far sooner than one might start damaging their gearbox. It is better to have cars back at the dealers with broken clutches rather than transmission failures. Saves the manufacturer a lot in terms of warranty claims for geaboxes.
Current: C7 RS6 - Black, VW Passat CC R36 - Black, Freelander 2 - Black
Sold: 911 C4S (991) - Black, Panamera Turbo ('11) - Carrera White, Nissan GT-R - DMG, B8 S4 - Phantom Black, B7 RS4 - Daytona grey saloon, Noble M400, Golf R32, Evo VIII MR, M3, Cooper S, Civic Type-R, BMW 120D (black), Mazda 6 MPS

Manufacturers organise track days themselves, if the cars (in particular High performance cars like the RS4) could not handle a few laps of a track then they would not arrange such events.
When i purchased my 996 tt i got a free 1/2 a day at Bedford with a Porsche instructor to show you how to drive it.

Obviously general abuse is another matter.

Not disputing the fact that manufacturers arrange track days...I've been to events like these myself. As you say, general abuse and repeated track days are a different matter and if one's car breaks as a result of such inappropriate use, they should be responsible for the repair costs, not the manufacturer/dealer.
