Mine got a mixture of easy driving and a few bursts now and then, and avoided constant throttle as much as possible. Net result..... right bank smokes quite heavily when started from cold but I am told that this is normal. Have put 2 ltrs of oil in over 7000 miles which appears to be low consumption.

Hi everyone, I'm a new member to the forum and thought i'd introudce myself, my car, and ask a quick question as well. Am the lucky (and waiting) owner of a new RS4 B7- arriving tuesday.

Now I read everyones views on running the car in- which is what I was curious about, however when i asked my dealer she informed me that it had be run in already. Can that be right? I asked someone else at the dealership and they said the same thing... That it had been run in already. Is this any cause for concern or do they just not know what they are talking about?

Any views would be appreciated.

Best Regards,

Mr.Sushi

howver as a good rule of thumb always assume the dealer does not know what they are talking about, come here for the correct answers!

Congrats, bet you can't wait :D . The engines are run by audi prior to sale of the car, but they are not run-IN.

For the best possible running in procedure, look here as previously extensively discussed:

Did the dealer tell you what the smoke was from?
Why its only from 1 bank?

That's bullsh*t I'm afraid. In order to save you time, plenty of us on here have done the following with excellent results (no/low oil use): run the engine in hard and fast once the oil is fully warmed through, using the whole rev range, particularly allowing the revs to drop totally before accelerating again, and change the oil after 2-3K, then enjoy.

LegalEagle, NO oil loss in an 8.25k revving engine. Shome Mishtake Shurely?

I tell you what would be nice, some way of workign out from the dipstick exactly what 1.2 full would mean in top up oil quantities.

Yes, you can deliver milk, just don't go too fast...

Wonder if this may be the cause of a couple of us, well 1 other guy and myself with smokey exhausts when cold??? Cant say how myn was run in so would be interesting to hear how he ran it in.

Ive done the above mentioned to a couple of new bikes and found very good results. If I had a new one I doubt Id like to take it over 6k before 1000km's. Let the rest of the engine loosen up and bed in a bit.
