if you dont like loosing money, dont buy cars
exactly!!
to be honest considering the B5 was 48k over 5 years ago, in comparison the B7 is a bargain in anyones language

I think it's great to drive your 'BRAND NEW' Audi RS4 Avant out of the garage that no one else has had their grubby little mits on before. I am loving every minute of driving it now instead of dreaming what it's like to get a second hand one in a years time. I don't think the money you save on depreciation by buying secondhand outways the enjoyment I am having now.

The OP is clearly trying to talk prices down.

Talk of a 'white elephant' is way off mark although its clear Audi have not been clever with the B7 - unlimited production runs and marque dilution with the cab will inevitably hit prices harder than with the B5.

Obvious question is, if you dont want to buy the car, why slate it? :bigblink: :drink:
Slating the market...not the car...as stated. Appreciate your patronizing comments by the way. I didn't expect the post to cause so much angst, with talk of alterior motives re 'talking the prices down' etc. Why ?...
I simply could not believe the amount of cars available, as many seem to agree.
So am I and the members on the other site 'all in it together ?', or are we all open and mature enough to post subjects the way we see them without fear of being patronized ?

I think you'll find a lot of the RS4 advertised are demos being run that will be available to buy next year or after they are six months old and the dealers are looking for customers for them now. There are also quite a few independants around that have imported them still thinking they're going to make a £5,000 premium on one and that's why they are still sitting around on their forecourts.

I saw on Autotrader a sprint blue avant that is up for £59,995 with a couple of thousand miles on it. I think he must of been advertising for two months now, just too greedy. As far as the other models I think you'll find it's not only RS4s sitting on forecourts around the country it's all the high performance, low mpg cars. People just can't afford the fuel costs on cars that are below 20 mpg and also if buying through a work scheme can't afford the tax with the high emissions banding. Look how much an M5 has dropped, early models soon to be had for £49,995 and the M6 has almost dropped £30,000 in less than a year.

There was a comment that the B5 Avant was a limited production (circa 400) and that the B7 would lose money because it wasn't limited. I know in total the three different B7 will surpass that amount or have already done so but I'll be surprised if Audi UK import more B7 Avants than they did B5s.

For sure they will drop in value but i don't think they'll drop like a stone like the secondhand buyers hope they will.

On the Audi website there are 11 Avants for sale or which only 5 are available to purchase today the other 6 are demos that the dealers cannot sell for at least 3 months after they have been registered. The advertised prices are staying firm but the cars don't appear to be moving. I don't know what the dealer/Audi purchasing arrangements are with regard to demos but I would not be surprise to hear that Audi impose strict selling criteria in an attempt to keep the prices high to assist with the sale of new orders in return I would imagine that the dealers get favourable payment terms with Audi for the demos. If the Avants are such a sort after car wouldn't it be fair to expect that the cars on the forecourts would be shifting quickly :?:

Jezzer, I agree...apart from your last line... as I'm just out of a supposedly bullet proof V8 Vantage...which proved to be a total fallacy. All top end is suffering, but this is I'm afraid filtering through to the middle range M & RS brigade.

Re the Avants, my local dealer is desperate to sell 3 Avants, one cancelled order, his pending demonstrator and another physical sitting in his other showroom with the dreaded bucket seats. All Phantom Avants. I'm still being chased !
Spoke to another dealer re an RS6 that he had just sold back to a guy who'd had an RS4 Avant and preferred the RS6 !.

I was in Guildford Audi last week and they had a saloon, 2 cabs and an Avant on the forecourt (all used I think) - which surprised me (not saying its a white elephant though :))

Doesn't surprise me about the cabs. A lot of people would have bought them just for the summer and then sell Sept/Oct. Why do you think the cabs were supplied before the avants.
Cheers,

So they arrived at the beginning of summer so every owner could get sunburnt. If they arrived when the Avant came they might not of sold as many.

Yes, if mine had turned up in September then I would have probably cancelled it and waited till next year. As mine turned up at the end of May though I've had a fantastic summer with it. (And still am when it's not raining).

If I wanted to sell my Avant now which has also done 1000 miles I'd be over the moon with that price!

To be honest, I've ignored this and the other thread on TSN as it's just life. I know where mine has been all it's life and what has happened to it, the joy of being the first owner and getting the keys was worth the money.

My only gripe is that I don't get to use it enough, I think I may need to move further from the office :D

Phoned the dealer, they said the phone has not stopped, they have had calls for this car all day, sold it to the first person that saw it and now realise that they had advertised it way too cheap and made a mistake. Makes you wonder what they bought it in for. Did ask me if I wanted a new Daytona Grey one sitting in their showroom.

slightly off topic, but if you want to know how NOT to spec:

Just my humble opinion of course...
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6
