nah mate.. i wouldn't condone this sort of behaviour on public roads!! ;-) hehe..
nah, thats not my plate, plus i have optics pack on my RS4 and that ain't..
although it is in my neck of the woods.. i have seen 4 RS4's now, i know who 2 of them are, am sure in time will find out who have got the other two too..

I knew the M5 would be quicker just didnt realise how easily it would pass the RS4 over 90-100 mph!!!

Erm aren't they sort of missing the point of cars like this though. Its not straight line speed but its pace through a corner, combined with comfort surely? its not exactly a sign of skill to make an automatic with a 100hp advantage overtake the RS4 on the straight.
Seems like they bought these cars for the ownership status rather than the driving pleasure.

I think you may be right there mate.. although im sure if you asked them for a race around a track, they would be sure to accept that challenge and show you their skills around the bends too..

Straight line skill depends a lot on the car, but also there is an element of driver skill too, i.e. Smg gear change timing, and with the RS4, if you fluff a gear change thats like 1 sec at least to your 0-60 time.

Its all good for a laugh though.

Actually my experience is more often than not they wouldn't be able to "show me their skills" though.
And as for SMG gear timing. whats to time, Red line pull up lever up? can't exactly fluff it can you? Plus he states in the video that its in Automatic. There is no driver involvement other than selecting the settings.
Don't get me wrong if it were all about pace through a corner I'd buy a Caterham or Atom but the reason I didn't buy an M3 was because around my way I'm sick of seeing kids who still live at home flooring them down the dual carriageway. Don't want to be tarred with the same brush.

its not envy, what is there to be envious of?
I bought my first car (an Elise) for cash along side paying for half my house with cash. Worked bloody hard to do it. Will be paying for the RS4 in cash and should finish paying the mortgage on a docklands flat in a few months time. i'm 34.
If however I'd lived at home and bought 175k of cars my father would have thrown me out of the house, literally. sleeping in an elsie is not comfy.
Buying a house wasn't something I wanted to do with my money, but it was something I was taught to do to make me independant and financially solvent throughout my life.

And my point about being tarred with the same brush is very apparent in that I hoped the M5 and RS4 would not end up the way of the 911 and M3. Around where I live if you mention Porsche 911s or M3 ownership you get one reaction. T**ser.
"i do not want to be a member of club that wants me as its member" Groucho marx (paraphrased)
if it does end up going the same way then I will sell it and buy a Skoda.

Therefore my use of the phrase you seem to have taken offence to does not refer specifically to being a 24 yr old living at home and driving a sporty car.

Whoa whoa guys... don't want to blow this out of proportion here. I was only reacting to Mike's comment;

"I'm sick of seeing kids who still live at home flooring them down the dual carriageway"

As in, where does it come into it with cars, that you're a kid living at home and whether or not you're likely to be flooring it about on the dual carriageways!?

I didn't mean for you all to start explaining your personal finances to me, congratulations on how well you're all doing, im glad to hear it, i really am.

We just have differing lifestlyes, i live at home, because im a muslim and an asian, and the only son, its tradition that dictates our housing arrangements.. its not that i can't afford my own place.. i don't have to ask daddy for money for my cars, hence its not really his problem what car im buying (let alone chucking me out of the house because of it.. why would he be bothered to that degree!?).. im responsible for all our companies vehicles as well if you want the gods honest truth.. and i run a portfolio of international properties so im not a stranger to mortgages and financial commitments.

The issue with the stereotype is that without any apparent reponsibility/concept of value these kids drive like complete morons on built up roads. thus giving the cars a bad name. I never ever see them on the lanes around london driving their cars, I guess because no-one can see them in their cars.

except that by working for him I assume the wages that he gives you is allowing you to pay for these cars?
Kam100 wrote:hence its not really his problem what car im buying (let alone chucking me out of the house because of it.. why would he be bothered to that degree!?)

because in my lifestyle my father would see such wastefulness as extreme iresponsibility, and it would be a harsh lesson in gaining that responsibility, oh and I'm an only son too

With all due respect that merely makes you the administrator and while your responsible in a business context (if you're a director that is) its not quite the same as making sure that you have enough money to make sure that the wife and kids have food and a roof over their heads. the consequences in other words are not so dire.

Shall we drop this now? I was after all merely pointing out that its not an overly impressive display of driving. if you want to see a better one check this out.

thats car control at speed, Porsche and old M5.

Oh and I'm with Simple1. Oh not to have to have the bills etc....

Mike, i attempted to drop it above, but you seemed to have carried on.. before you start implying that my father has brought me up in the wrong way, and my spending habbits can be described as wasteful, well how can you make such points? do you know me, do you know our personal circumstances?
Do you know our business setup?

I think we should let this drop now, or take this offline via PM's if you want to discuss anything further.

Thanks for the link, Sabine is an awesome driver.
Here is another link from someone on the M5 Board i saw a while ago:
