For me the B7 is a downgrade on a B5. A fast car but frustratingly slow compared to a B5. I have had many drives back to back (a friend has a B7) and we both agree the B5 is much more lively. I would like a new car but it would have to perform better to persuade me out of my B5. Thats why the RS4 plus is so attractive. I wait in hope. Until then, its the B5 for me.

Did you tune yours ?
Probably yes, like 95% of RS4 B5 on the road. In that case it is almost sure that your B5 is quicker on straight line than a B7. Now the question is to know if Audi has to create cars that are easy to tune or simply cars that are better than their predecessors.
For sure you will find less people ready to spend time to improve a non-turbo engine nowadays (and for which result ?)
But don't worry, the main reason why Audi put a V8 in the A4 was because of the war between german manufacturers. Now BMW, that used to snub Audi because they used turbo to get power, started to put some too. So for sure the next generation RS4 will be again turbocharged with probably around 500hp that 1 month after release, tuners will boost to 600hp or even more...

That could possibly be the case although I have not driven the B5, I would have thought bith cars drive different especially with different engines?

So if your friend's car has more than 6000Kms on the clock (to actually finish to run in) and you are still quicker than him he can bring it back to the dealer.
I test drove RS4 B5 untuned and tuned as well as RS4 B7 and B7 was definitely quicker. Power distribution is different, feeling is completely different but against the clock the B7 was quicker (than the untuned one, for the tuned one, it was another story.

I said the B5 was more lively and that equals quicker than the B7. I did NOT say it handles better. The B7 handles better although with quattro gmbh suspension, the B5 is pretty close.

It can be as lively as a jungle compared to a brickwall, that's a opinion and a way of driving the car, still it's sheer mathematics, that the B7 is also quicker which equals faster. My point is, that your statement is false.

Give me a few more days and i will have enough miles on my b7 to compare the two.... my B5 is putting out somewhere in the 440 bhp region, it certainly feels quicker than the B7, but I still have not done more than 4k revs in it.. The feel of the B7 is far superior, lighter and more responsive controls, and much better feedback through the steering and your backside..you actually feel like you are in control of the car rather than the other way round in the B5...

Please yourself. I see you have ordered one so you obviously don't want to hear negatives. I have owned a B5 for 5 years and have spent many hours driving my friends B7 and him mine, which is where WE came to the conclusion. I presume you have never owned a B5. I will wait for the RS4 Plus.

It might be that the b5 feels quicker as its turbo charged - i went from scooby wrx to S4 - scooby felt quicker but is in fact slower. Its all to do with the fact the body can only feel changes in acceleration, so your body doesnt feel a constant acceleration such as you get in a NA V8

Spikey - completely agree with you and this has been prooven too. And why would a B7 RS4 with more power and less weight be slower!?!?!??!

Unfortunately, they are producing too many B7's. The B5 is, and always will be, iconic! 400rhd cars only...........
Croft circuit a few months ago proved how inadequate the B7 is compared to the B5. Such a pity as in isolation it's a cracking car.
Shame it cannot be tuned like the B5
