dunnit, same (verbatim) reply.

My reply was...

"Thanks, but you might like to spend a few minutes looking at the forum to gauge the feelings of the customer base. I’m afraid I struggle to understand why the function works on the continent and not here-that wouldn’t be the case if the technology were inadequate, I suspect. If it is simply a bit of negotiation re the licence fee, there is even a (I guess naive) offer for us to do a whip round for you!"

Naive because it is probably an arm and a leg!

Perhaps there is hope! this was my reply today

"Hi Simon,

It is certainly illogical when you consider that the TMC system operates the moment that you enter the continent.

There was an issue as I understand regarding the licensing / operation through the local radio stations, which I believe has now been resolved.

Hopefully a whip round is no longer required!

Does this mean the TMC is going to start working now? If so when?

Seems they are going to sort the issue with A8 and A6 customers first, and story goes that cars will need a software update to make it function.. Story from Milton Keynes is........... THEY HAVE NOW PAID THE LICENCE FEE....so it shouldnt be too long before it does work.......... but dont quote me

Had my update done on the A8. Took about two hours in the workshop and was free. It also downloads other updates as well. The TMC display is now on without the line through it much of the time but where I live is too rural for it work all the time. Nice to have for the odd trip to the M25 ghetto.

Excellent news I suppose it is just a matter of waiting for them to roll out to other models, did they also give you a new updated DVD.

I was at the Audi Training Centre on Tuesday and spoke to David Ingram about the TMC. There will be a firmware upgrade to all RS4's available later in the year. It is likely to be free. There is a slight technical difference between the continental version and the one broadcast from Classic FM

Hope that helps. I will keep in touch with David
