If The Stig really did post a 1.25, that puts it fully 3 seconds ahead of the M3 CSL. Very impressive indeed! I am also pleased to hear Clarkson's comment about the engine. We'll see soon... BTW, the TopGear schedule hasn't been released in the States yet, and I'll bet there are a few of us here that would love to see the show before (if) it gets here on Discovery Network. A tape (VHS) or DVD of the broadcast would be MUCH appreciated if someone has the chance...

Daz wrote:Oh and apparently the Stig took it round the track earlier in the day (not filmed) and got a time of 1.25. The new Porsche Cayman was also on the show and only managed 1.26.

Here's some others for comparison.

Koenigsegg - 1.23.9
Noble - 1.25.0
Gallardo - 1.25.8
Lotus Exige - 1.26.4
Chevrolet Corvette - 1.26.8
Mercedes CLS 55 AMG - 1.26.9
Porsche 911 GT3 - 1.27.2
The Cayman's time is just off that of a Gallardo......1.26 is very quick round that circuit...thats quicker than a GT3
Have to say i am slightly sceptical about the unfilmed time for the RS4....thats the same time as the noble :?

Don't want to sound like a killjoy, but the GT3 and CSL times were both in the wet...

Just after watching Top Gear...They loved the car...

Comments like this can only help Audi's image. Great to hear positive feedback on the TV...

But why have they not made the laptime official. I think we should all email in to complain.

If the RS4 did really do 1:25.something as Jezzer said then thats an outstanding time!!!

Hopefully we'll see The Stig in this week's Top Gear pacing the car round their track - what a gorgeous sounding car! Lucky people who are getting one.

"Better than the BMW M3". I should hope so for an extra £10,000! I think it's fairer to compare the M3 to the S4, and maybe something like the CSL to the RS4.

What a great review for Audi.
Didn't it sound soooooo good. :rocker:
I have driven the roads around the Verdon Gorge and they definately some of the best I have been on. Some great little tunnels and a few very precarious drops! Shame there was so much low lying cloud on the film as the view is quite stunning.

Actually I was rather disappointed. As already noted, there was no track time recorded. Instead we got a rather pointless race against a rock-climber. Whilst I do enjoy Top Gear, I think it is much better to see a proper comparison done, like what they do on Five with images of two cars 'overlaid' on the track.

The whole rock climbing vs the RS4 was a waste of time as Clarkson got stuck behind traffic and moaned about only doing 30mph.

The RS4 should have been up against some competion and defo should have been given to the Stig for the track time....Clarksons head is full of <beep> at the best of times so harping on about a 1min 25 ish time means very little.I would indeed hope it does crush the M3 as its a bit old hat nowadays...be more interested in how it gets on against the M5 or the M5 estate.
Lets hope 5th gear do a more worthwhile test

The 1:25 lap time was an official time with the Stig driving, it was just that it wasn't shown.
I know the lap was almost dry and the GT3 wasn't, but I suspect that the RS4 time wouldn't have been much slower even if it had been wet. :)

Definately. The S4 vs M3, RS4 vs CSL and the RS4 would probably still win. The RS4 is the fast Audi that they they should always have made, they should make it the S4 and bring out a stripped out, race'd up version to go head to head against the CSL...if subaru and Mitshubishi can turn a can of beans into a fast car for £20k then I'm sure Audi can find somehting in their arsenal to beat BMW..>!

Story is Audi wont release cars for direct comparison tests yet, they are still 'in development' and therefore we are unlikely to see any tests until the car is officially released....... what they have done is allow the journos to create interest in the car, which is to Audi's benifit, which will obviously swell the the order books, especially the prospecting ordering fraternity. happened with the first RS to a certain level, and then Audi wised up to it and refused to supply cars to waiting buyers unless they had originally ordered the cars. I guess the same will happen again.

And without having to resort to using cardboard panels in the boot  I must say that RS4 looks splendid, but will sadly be forever out of the reach of plebs like me.
