Interesting to see the two critical posts come from RS6 owners.
Perhaps never having owned an RS4 they don't quite understand.
Critical of what??- only the totally negative posting to the announcement of a new, yet undefined, RS4. I can't be negative to the car because I don't know what it is.
What I , or anybody else owns, is fairly irrelevant to the issue-the issue is, you've got the chance to own what will undoubtedly be (and I'll say it slowly) A BETTER CAR.
Basically you've been part of a small 'club' that has formed due to the limited availability and exclusiveness of the old RS4 and now there's going to be a new RS4 -and a new 'club' will undoubtedly form around it.

I fully understand jjrs4's post. I was in a similar position when the original RS4 came out and I ordered one as a replacement for my RS2. When the time came to swap I could'nt get rid of the RS2 as the car has so much character. I toyed with the idea of having both an RS4 and an RS2 but her indoors could'nt see the logic of this approach. So reluctantly, I never took delivery of the RS4 even though it was already registered in my name. Car was Avus Silver with every factory extra. Absolutely spot on JJ.

Chris's post rang a chord too :
I have just had mine MOTed. The first car in 14 years that I have had to have done.

Almost exactly the same with me too. And that says more about the car than mere words can.

Hmm good topic, me I am not depressed, I have no intention of buying a new rs4, but i am fortunate in that the mileage I do means that mine will last a few years more yet. I only hope I don't crash it and it doesn't get stolen.

I have seen progress in many areas and in my view it is not always better!!. Take heart from the fact that the RS2 still has and always will have respect!

In my opinion there should not be a new rs4 as stated by someone previously, it just devalues the name - I hope the RS2 survives the marketing madness. I wouldn't own an RS6 for me it misses the point.

I predict that audi will create a new rs4 in unlimited numbers and then create a new special edition version called maybe rsr4 which will be limited and really special like the original rs2 was at the time and to a lesser extent the RS4. I tolerate progress, but I don't need the shiniest new toy around just for the sake of it as long as my current kit still works, after all thats why I buy the best.

I'm new on this site and have placed an order for a new RS4. At the moment I drive an M3 and so I am the reason why Audi are going to make a new RS4, to attract new sales from other brands.

I missed out on the original RS4 and because everyone keeps going on about how good they are, I want one too.

Audi are only just getting themselves organised to compete against the M brand, as Merc are starting to with AMG. BMW will have a new M3(4?) in 2006, these will be 8 cylinder, 400ish bhp and available as an estate. Audi need to produce a rival or they are going to get left behind. The current RS4 is I am sure very good, will it beat the new M3 touring that has all the latest toys?

But why does that mean that there musn't be a new one??
I genuinely don't see the point here.

Mixed feelings here too regarding new (unknown) RS4 coming.

On a different front: what means MOTed...like
- destroyed after reaching the end of it's life (loads of kilometers)
- or registered as a "classic car",
- or put in the garage for use only on special occasions as it's too valuable (emotionally...) to use every day

help...
d. (looking forward to understanding MOTed and to driving my RS4 back home after work)

Any car registered in the UK must take an MOT test every year when it is over three years old.
It is to test basic roadworthiness and to remove unsafe vehicles from the roads.
(I think I may need to highlight the word 'basic')

In the UK, Don when a car is three years old it must have its first vehicle inspection by an approved garage, and pass a series of tests to ensure it is still roadworthy. These tests are then carried out every year on the car.

The point is really that many of us (well me anyway) have never owned a regular use car long enough to have to ever put it through the MOT in the first place, moving on to faster and better things much sooner. But now we have a dilemma, and one that hasnt been arrived at before. When you have a 450hp+ avant, that can do what it does on the road so well, and still embarass much of what passes for trackday machinery on track, then where precisely do you go at the minute?

Nowhere. And so many who "moved on" have moved back again!

We are spoiled children. The next RS4 has a F**K of a lot to live up to. Dont F**K it up Audi.

At this point Audi, i personally wouldnt buy the new RS4 baised on what has been put about.
I want a european Bi turbo exclusive avant from hell
Its got to be better, otherwise i will and others will walk away, i personally think that Audi need to make a car for the USA and another for europe, the RS4 we have is and will be the last of the greats
But this is progress, apparently , but face facts i dont see us getting what we want, and there gonna make a car that will sell in greater numbers worldwide, so who gives a toss about 400 odd users here in the UK.

400 * £50,000 = £20 Million. Conservative estimate, and probably not a huge amount in the grand scale of things, but surely our opinion is worth something.....

Wasn't there some talk of reviving some Supercharger technology?

But they did make a car for europe (RS4) and america (RS6).

and in reply to the comment about competition from BMW et al, unless it is 4wd then it's no good for me.

Don, the mot is easier than the stricter swiss MFK test but is yearly as opposed to two or three yearly.

And so many who "moved on" have moved back again!

I consider myself to be so lucky that I was able to pick up an absolute minter of a RS4 last year as they are getting hard to find now. I can't believe that over 3 years I have done a massive circle of performance cars and ended up back in an RS4 again!!

Avus RS4 (eventually became insurance jons!)
911 Turbo
911 Turbo with factory engine upgrade
Abt RS6
Evo7
M3
Z4
M5
S4 V8
and then back to another RS4

The next one better be good - really good or I don't want it and even if it is good I'd find it hard to part with what I have just now. This is the only car I have ever owned that I have mot'd and the only car that still puts that ear to ear grin when you press the loud pedal to overtake something slower like ..... an M3
