Somebody correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure misting shocks are a sign that they’re on their way out?Jon_J wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2018 8:06 pmI looking for some help please.
I’ve seen a car, it’s top money which is fine but I have a couple of niggles.
1. MOT in 2014 had an advisory for misting on both front shocks. It’s done a few thousand miles since. I’ve checked the history and with the garages doing the maintenance and no one has fitted new shocks (standard DRC)
2. No evidence of a carbon clean
3. Steering wheel buttons are terrible so need replacing.
Question: would you be looking for money off for a car with these issues?
I welcome your opinions.

Not necessarily, misting shocks are an indication that they might be on their way out but not a sure sign; they can be misting and still be fine for ages.RS4LAD wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2018 11:10 pmSomebody correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure misting shocks are a sign that they’re on their way out?Jon_J wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2018 8:06 pmI looking for some help please.

Very surprised shocks haven’t been changed to new variant as I’m pretty sure they were a recall item as Audi knew they were faulty. Maybe they can be changed with a claim to Audi uk as there is no sign of it ever being done.
A lot of people don’t even actually know that the bns engines need de coking at some point so no surprise there.
If the S button is battered maybe it’s a sign of abuse. Id go there test drive it and see how it pulls, also check for all the other usual stuff such as flaps bolsters etc etc also plug in VCDS and check for any errors.
Personally if I was paying top whack for a car I’d expect it to be impeccable regardless of age. I’d make an offer based on what I think it’ll cost me to make it perfect and ask for that figure to be deducted.
A lot of traders are dreamers and Iv seen some cars sat there for almost a year and not selling. You can use this as a buying point too maybe they’d just let it go for some profit rather than let it sit there and cost them money to continually list it and maintain it etc
In that case guessing they just were replaced under warranty then?MikeFish wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 7:24 amNot necessarily, misting shocks are an indication that they might be on their way out but not a sure sign; they can be misting and still be fine for ages.RS4LAD wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2018 11:10 pmSomebody correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure misting shocks are a sign that they’re on their way out?Jon_J wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2018 8:06 pmI looking for some help please.

And I don't believe there has ever been a recall for DRC.
Nope, give up looking for one with a sunroof. Might look at having mine cut out and transferred.Surrey Sam wrote:Blimey that was quick, did you manage to get a sunroof?

To be honest you'd probably still be looking this time next year to find the same spec again. Some things just have to be compromised, so that you can get on with life. At least you have proper brakes now.
Agreed, will I find a sprint blue with a roof and black optics? Probably not. I’ve never seen another one. So I had to compromise somewhere.Surrey Sam wrote:To be honest you'd probably still be looking this time next year to find the same spec again. Blue is best
Are cars with sunroofs rare ?
Not especially, it if you add all the other requirements, colour, carbon, wingbacks, fbsw and anything else you fancy they get rarer.
