Why not make an introduction thread telling us your name, about yourself and your previous cars so you can be properly welcomed.

I hadn't realised the standard exhaust was straight through, I had assumed they balanced in the resonator. How many people are running straight pipes after deleting hte resonator?

Exactly... advice. You are the customer and if you want str8ght pipes then tell them that. The milltek cat back system comes with a H pipe.

OK I HAVE A DILEMMA NOW ????

Just had the xpipe fitted, and to be honest i am very pleased with the sound, much louder and deeper as it should be.

BUT

The garage has pointed out to me that the two flexi pipes that join the cats have been damaged / scraped, their not blowing but may well do in future and i did see the damage for myself but i am unsure if it was me or previous owner.

Any way it was recommended that IF AND ONLY IF i decide to have the flexi repaired, it would make sense to remove the two cats as putting in straight pipes is far easier to re join to the flexi pipes

I am ok with this except, will the car be stupid loud ????????????? as i dont want that, the garage said they would reinstate the flaps if i wanted then if it was too loud i could choose to use the sports button to close and make it less loud.

any thought / advice on this one ? the flexi doesn't need to be done at present but im thinking just get them repaired, but removing the cats maybe too loud, whats your thoughts please ?

I wouldn't worry about the flexi. Mine is like that and I expect all others are the same too. You can just get it repaired or get a set off pipes off someone else on here. Removing cats means you need a remap and will fail an MOT. So you either need to swap exhausts every year or know a dodgy garage. Or buy some sports cats.

OH OK, no i dont want to be doing that, i did think that you only had to have two cats though, but as i say i am happy with the mod as it is so may well leave it alone as you say

There are 2 cats in each pipe, the main cat and pre cat. You can get rid of the pre cat without affecting MOT but if you get rid of main cats then you will most likely fail. The pre cat and main cat are in the same pipe.

mike are the pre cats the ones leading from the engine bay ? and the main cats under the car ? if so the bloody garage should have told me as i did ask if it would fail mot if the ones under the car would fail the mot.

I don't think any of them can be seen under the car. I may be wrong but they are both on the downpipes.

ok i am confused lol,

basically this was the conversation and what i personally saw.

under the car where the exhaust has already come down from the engine bay, their is approx 6 inches of flexi pipe connecting straight into two what i was told were cats, they look similar too mufflers i guess, one on each pipe. he said its very awkward to connect new flxi onto the cats because the flexi actually goes inside the cat unit, he said if i wanted i could replace the flexi as its damaged and put in straight pipes by removing the two cats (one each pipe) i said is that ok for mot and he said yes because i still have another cat behind the engine one on each pipe. So unless these boxes i saw were mor mufflers then surely their cats ???????????

im curious now as to what is what? from what i gathered their was two cats on the down-pipe leading from the engine, and then two cats under the car around the gear stick area approx.

Can anyone enlighten us please lol

Sounds like what they're suggesting is removing the main cats, and keeping the pre-cats.

That is a stupid thing to do.

The precats (the ones upstream, closer to the engine) are 400 cell - which is restrictive.

The main cats are downstream (visible under the car) and these are 200cell - enough to get you through an MOT without being too restrictive. They're the same spec as what you'd class as "sports cats" in the aftermarket world.
