How did I miss that DIY?? Oh well just trying to be helpful.
Great effort and quality pictures on the write up  Always worth checking the FAQ sticky at the top of the page to see if the DIY project has been covered before. If not, get it done and then PhilT can be add it to the FAQ post.

Yes, that's the mirror retention strap that was being referred to.
Cheers mate. I did search! Long and hard. But the other DIY has no meta data on images or proper title so impossible to find...

Yeah that strap was removed by me. Still a 5 min job at best per side... ;)

Ilya, in this instance there was no need to do a search.
Have you seen the sticky thread at the top of the B7 section:
viewtopic.php?f=35&t=93074

There is a list of DIY guides in there with links and the door mirror removal one is on there.

Actually I usually search through Google and more often or not it takes me to this site or audizine. Next time sure will check the sticky first :)

Nice write up nonetheless!!

As Mike mentioned though, you're going to have a nasty surprise on your hands when you go to put it all back together...getting the triangle back under the door rubber is a lot harder than you'd expect! Those door trim tools you have will help a lot, as will a can of silicone lube.

What's the plan for your mirrors then? Gloss black?

:) I have already attached the rubbers back ;) have to admit it is harder than it looks but with a right tool not the hardest job I have done on the car.... Like freaking engine mounts ... Lol.
You will see end results at the show ;)

Well done I found it really hard to get the rubber the right side of the triangle all along the triangle. Glad you have the straps I think it is quite tempting to cut them as you have to strip the mirror down to pass them through - can't really remember now but was I am sure it added some complexity to the job.

As you say fairly straight forward and any DIY is always helpful for others so thanks for posting.
