Have a search Chris. Think Rick and Tony Hayers have done it.

This is mine freshly P+P'd. Spent bloody hours going though the grades. Totally deflapped the intake too!!!

Wow, that looks a lot of work. What does the de-flapping do mate? You'll have to forgive me but it's all new to me.

Oh it was a lot of work but is done now haha.

Again Chris, if you do a search for "tumbler flaps" or "intake flaps" there will be some scientific explanation as to the exact reasoning for the flaps. Iirc they basically are closed at low rpm forcing the air through a tighter aperture in the intake to aid combustion but then open once above a set rpm when they are no longer required. They tend to pick up a lot of the carbon deposits so by removing them it may prolong carbon build up. From what I read, there where no real negatives to removing them so I went for it!!!.

I also fitted a JHM intake spacer kit which states the flaps in the head must be removed,,,,, so I took the lot out

I did however keep all the mechanisms working so the sensors would register as normal and not throw up CEL's

I am buying a RS4 and he has shown recipts from MRC who did a full de carbon and stage 2 remap and achived 438 bhp.
My question is that was 30k miles ago. Been serviced etc well looked after. Would the carbon of built back up now ? And is there away of checking

I did this at the weekend not to bad a job tbh took me all day but was worth it hardest part is actually cleaning the carbon car feels hell of a lot smoother on idle and feels like it’s gained a few ponies at the same time 👌

Done this on a few tfsi’s I’ve owned worked spot on every time atho the rs4 being the worse one I’ve done so far Carb cleaner/brake cleaner ,soft plastic wire brush ,Cheap sandblaster used with walnut shells and a nice pink hetty hover just took my time not to spray anything anywhere I shouldn’t and just enough to soak the carbon to soften it .cut up some cardboard for the hover and sandblaster nozzle to fit in and away I went ! Eventually managed it one port at a time tapeing up the complete ones . All back together running smooth
