Tyres...
Re: Tyres...
Yes, they can be tyresome (see what I did there), but new people will always have the similar questions... that's the nature of forums.
Just don't read the one's that are not of interest.

Re: Tyres...
I was asking if anyone had any experience with the mentioned tyres, NOT what people's experiences are with the tyres that have already been discussed a million times. I think ill take a punt on the Avon ZZ5's when the time comes, and considering you have all decided which tyres are the best I won't bother reporting back if they're any good or not! I love forums....Timster wrote:Yes, they can be tyresome (see what I did there), but new people will always have the similar questions... that's the nature of forums.

Re: Tyres...
Whatever you do, don't get Falken 452s. I put a set on my daily and the rears were toast after 9k miles, and it's only a 320d estate
They're rubbish

sportauto test
pilot super sport
Unsurprisingly for a dry optimised tyre, the Super Sport only manages an average wet performance with a particular weakness in the aquaplaning tests.
conti 5
The Continental Sport Contact 5P follows the usual Continental methodology - braking comes first. This leaves the Sport Contact 5P excellent in both the wet and the dry braking tests and has an extremely strong aquaplaning result.
btw: the Pirelli was ranked #1

Re: Tyres...
My mate put 452's on his R32..... with interesting results. Not too bad in the dry but noticeably worse in the wet compared to the Pilot Sport 3's the car had when he got it. Just because a tyre has more grip, does not make it more fun!
I would rather have a predictable tyre than one with higher grip levels and snappy over the limit behaviour.

Re: Tyres...
I, like most, do not have the ability to test, both objective measurements and subjectly for 'feeling' so I rely on organized tets and reviews
and even these may not help much: a rear drive car weighing 400 lbs less, with 50/50 balance may respond well to a tire that works like crap on a heavier, 60/40 awd car
I think getting the right size, load/speed rating and XL designation is critical, as are tire pressures
other than that, any modern tire should give good service

I'm suspicious of any tyre tests which include subjective tests that aren't blind. It's too easy to be swayed by branding and marketing.ArthurPE wrote:EVO

looks like 2 parts measurement/objective (wet and dry) 1 part subjective
they may have been blind tests (ie they didn't know what tire was on the car)

Yeah, it just didn't say so sort of assuming they're not blind tests.
