I just got a similar reply from Tom saying I'm on his database, but not to expect anything this year.

This is the reply that I receieved:
Hi Glyn,

I am indeed the main point of contact for TMC.

Firstly please accept my apologies for the non functioning TMC on your RS4.

We are actively pursuing a retro fit option with the assistance of my marketing and factory colleagues, which we hope to have available by the end of 2006.

I am keeping a spreadsheet of those customers who have contacted me and they will be the first to benefit from this retro fit option.

Regards

Tom Peterkin

TMC only works "officially" in new A6/A8/Q7 with the MMI system.

To make it work in the older CD based sat nav systems you have to buy the CD from TeleAtlas - which isn't "officially" supported by Audi UK.

And, as well all know only too well, it doesn't work in an RNS-E at all - except (it is said) unless it's a Lamborghini version of an RNS-E!

I have given up worrying about it now not going to make it come any quicker, also used TMC for first time this weekend in Paris did not really make much of a difference and was in a few jams.

I spoke to Audi a couple of days ago, and there is a plan in action to get this resolved. New cars post week 50 (IIRC) will be fitted with the required bits from the factory. Retrofitting will occur at about the same time. It seems there may be a "small" cost to get the "update", so I would suggest that you look into if the TMC functionality was stated in the documentation as being included.

If there is a TMC icon on the RNS-E screen does that not mean that it already supports TMC? Not sure why we would have to pay to have it enbabed if it was supposed to be part of the original spec. Charge for map updates. But not to put right something that was suppposed to be operational

The updates for A6 & A8 where free of charge also included ne map information, so hopefully will be the same for A4 range.

It means it supports subscription free TMC - which is what the rest of Europe have.

If Audi UK or any dealers try to charge us we should make sure they get some "publicity".

OK - but the TMC subscription shouldn't cost THAT much. I think TomTom is charging £60 a year and it is free on one of the new Garmins. I would understand if Audi wanted us to fork out a nominal amount for an annual TMC sub and the cost of a new DVD (say £50) . But I would be extremely irate if it was around £400 for a new DVD and/or dealer serviced firmware upgrade at £150 an hour.
