RS reviewed in group test Autocar this week

Post by DuncS3 » Wed Feb 22, 2006 11:08 am

RS4 is pitched against Cayman S, M3 CS and SLK 55 AMG

Cayman wins it, possibly M3 next and then RS

RS gets a really good write up though - tested on track and road - obviously RS buyer might not look at a Cayman, they group based on cost 50k cars, all German.

They say RS is the best handling car Audi have ever produced

In the article it's interesting to see that when the cars are put round a track the Cayman is quickest, but when Top Gear put it round their track with the stig, it was a second quicker than the Cayman. When your talking about such a small margin its all about the driver really isn't it?
RS4 Straight out the box - gone :-(

If it's going to be your everyday car which unless your extremely wealthy it's going to be, then in my opinion there's only one winner in either test. The RS4. Especially in the UK with our roads & weather! If it's just a weekend toy for summer you might then look elsewhere, otherwise it's head and shoulders above any so called rivals. As an all round package it just can't be matched.

Hmmm, lets be honest, I think anyone on this forum is going to be ever-so-slightly biased towards the RS4, especially when the majority of us are spending about £55k on one!

Personally, I don't car whether the Cayman or M3 are quicker, for me, the only suitable car for what I want is the RS4. I did think about the new M5, but having driven the previous e39 M5 in snow and on ice, I can appreciate the limitations of rear wheel drive. I'll stick with quattro thank you very much.

As said above, all-round the RS4 can't be touched.

Yes Gumball, think anybody would be protective of their car or car to be.

Ive always loved 4WD....

The S3 lacked the engine noise and handling but ooooozed class.
The R32 had the sound and handling but with average quality which was surpassed by the S3

The RS4 fits the bill perfectly for me.

I cant wait....
