Clarity on removing suspension assembly

Post by mikeymike14 » Tue Jan 26, 2021 3:25 pm

My suspension needs a refresh. I have the Meyle HD suspension arms set and Bilstein B14's ready to fit. I'm also going to have new wheel bearings fitted while the front assembly is in pieces. The infamous pinch bolt fills me with dread and since I'll need a garage to replace the bearings, I plan to remove the entire assembly and give it to a garage. They can then use their proper tools to fit the arms to the hub, swap out the shocks and press in new bearings. I can then refit the same way I removed. Can anyone see any blockers to this plan?

In terms of what I need to do, I've got:

1) Drain, disconnect and cap off DRC
2) Remove caliper from hub
3) Remove disc from hub
4) Disconnect wheel speed sensor cable
5) Disconnect ARB drop link
6) Remove track rod connection
7) Unbolt lower arms at subframe end
8) Unbolt top mount

...which will allow the whole assembly to come out?

TIA!

There is a headlight leveling sensor on the left lower arm. Its secured with a spring clamp which will probably be rusty. And the big bolt that secures the diveshaft into the hub. Whilst you are in there check your cv boots and replace at the slightest sign of cracking .

Thanks that’s useful

Does the rest of the procedure look correct or will I get to a point where I realise it can’t be done that way?
