Buying a 2007 RS4

Post by Mcarth » Sat Oct 03, 2020 8:52 pm

Hello everyone,

I’ve finally tracked down a B7 near me and thanks to a friend who works at the dealership, they’re giving it to me for $13k Canadian instead of $21k Canadian. Only issues I can find is some very slight rust towards the bottom inside of 3 of the doors, as well as a bit the size of a dime on the left rear fender and a tiny bit on the trunk lid. My father thinks it may have a surge misfire, but the dealer is confident it’s just carbon buildup.

I’ve attached photos of the rust, it’s minor (I think?), but I haven’t seen underneath yet. I’ve been told it’s clean. I’m wondering if anyone has experience with these areas rusting, if it’s going to be costly to repair, or any other advice you may have when it comes to this car specifically. It’s a screaming deal obviously, so if I have to put some money in I don’t feel as bad. I believe under 200 of these ever made it to Canada in 2007.

Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated!

I have never seen them rust let alone rust there. If it looks like that on top, god only know what the underside will be like.

I guess getting two doors isn’t the end of the world, the rear arch can be repaired.

But... I would it’ll be thinking, if it’s that badly looked after?

my first rs4 i bought was rusty at inner door corners-that was a 2006 car appx 5 yrs ago
was cheap and simple to rectify
i have seen a few with bad blistering on the rear haunches behind rear doors too-pretty superficial but needs sorting quickly

these are aging cars now with the first of them being some 15yrs or so old

I understand that, I guess your climate effects them more than ours. I’ve seen some crappy RS4s in my time but I have never seen one rusting. Bad paint, dents, crap interiors and generally untidy but not rusty.

If it’s normal where you are then you would know better I guess.

Be Interesting to see other people’s comments. I would expect it to look like that anywhere in the UK. Maybe I’ve only seen nice clean ones though?

Thanks for the help guys, the dealer is letting me take a look underneath on their hoist tomorrow. Totally agree that it may have been neglected, certainly its been winter driven with 180k on it. Will send photos of the underbody. If there's no issues, steal of the century. I would think repairs will only be a few thousand.

Here's some photos underneath. The running boards are circled below, and seem somewhat concerning but I'll get your thoughts. Seems manageable for the price. The rest of it seemed cleaner than expected.

it looks fine though but would get some waxoil etc on that inner sill/running board

I’m a little out my depth here I’m afraid. Never seen anything like it. I would run a mile but I’m not you.

I think you need some other people to tell you what they think. Mine looks like this? Not a bit of rust in site?
